One thing is for sure. This has to be the first video ever produced as an ANA Governor campaign ad.

I liked the music, but I kept expecting Michael to say a few words and he did not. No doubt that will be in a future iteration.

That will be coming very soon - a second video is in the works (with narration from me). And once I get really good at video editing, a third one may come out.

  • Hi Mike,

    check your email please...
    Thanks,

  • Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this.
I take great exception to the ANA logo on the eBay Coins pages as long as eBay allows SGS coins to be sold there. It appears the ANA endorses anyone that eBay allows to sell. How do you feel about this? Here is the page in question, I called them last Summer and they said they were working on this issue.

That eBay/ANA Code of Conduct page says (emphasis mine):

<< <i>Sellers agree not to knowingly participate in any way in the advertisement, sale or trade of any numismatic material using any deceptive practices including, but not limited to, false or misleading claims of sales scarcity, value, condition or investment potential. >>

In addition to SGS, there's WCG, CSI and GEC that probably should be tested against that requirement.

Nice Job. I feel you're working hard to try and raise votes and do the right thing. If elected, will you take questions/suggestions here and actually answer them?

    Michael,
I think you did a great job on this first video. I only hope that your opponents won't try to get CU to remove you from this board.
We are into a new era of technology and the internet is a great way to not only communicate but also to let people get to know each other. You have an advantage here thru this medium and I applude you for using it. Other candidates should learn to do it also. Good luck with not running into roadblocks.

I would make one suggestion with your campaign slogans. I agree with you saying you are against SOME of the Bylaw changes, BUT some of them are good and should be enacted. You might want to distingwish between the good and the bad.

    Good luck Michael.

Very interesting and certainly shows a lot of effort and new ideas in using a video..... but where is the meat? think you could speed it up a bit and put a little more info in...good luck with your campaign....Jon

  • So far, so good ... I will look forward to the next video with you speaking ... this is important, as you will need to prove your ability to confidently communicate your message in an open person-to-person forum. It is important to be able to write well and put together a video... yet in the day-to-day business with the ANA you will need to also put your ideas across with coherent and confident speech.

So far...you have my vote !!!

Michael --- I would be quite shocked it CU were to remove you from the board for this video link. If any present ANA board member... or person seeking a seat... were to somehow convince CU to do so... the person(s) responsible would immediatly lose my vote and CU would most likely lose my respect and business...I certainly hope this does not occur...

Best of luck with your campaign !!

    Michael:

That was a nicely done video. I have a few comments:
    1) I believe that in the phrase "members interest" there is a possessive needed, a'la "members' interest".
    2) I think that a major issue facing the ANA is the lack of growth in the membership. From March 1999, just as the States Quarter program was starting, to March of this year the membership increased from 28,000 to 32,000. I think the 4,000 increase in membership is pitiful when one thinks of the number of people who started looking (or, recalling their youth, re-looking) at their coins due to the State Quarters program and the fact that there were a lot of "buy one year, get one year free" offers for ANA membership. I think it would be good for the ANA board to really concentrate on this issue and so I'd like to hear of any plans you might suggest to boost membership.
    3) The ANA leadership has suggested opening museums on West coast and the East coast. I do not want to bias your response by telling you my opinion of this proposal (though I suspect it would be hard to bias your response! image ) but I would like to know your opinion on this idea.
    4) Similarly I'd like to know your opinion on the Las Vegas show and its ANA tie in.
    5) Though I suspect that the ANA will already have made a decision about an "official grading company" (or companies), what are your thoughts? If you oppose this idea, how do you respond to the decrease in the ANA's revenue?
Perhaps you could address some of these issues in your next video. In the meanwhile, your current video is very nice. Are you planning on taking an ad in the Numismatist to steer ANA members to it?

I did not renew my ANA membership because of this very issue. If I thought something was going to be done about it I would renew.

Good video, Michael! I think many ANA members will agree that it is time for change in the ANA.

I'll reiterate what somebody already mentioned. I dislike intensely some of the proposed bylaw changes, however some of the proposed changes are quite good. You should consider taking up or down positions on some of the specific changes, something I have not yet seen any of the candidates do.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

Julian I will renew on your say so. I remember your name when I was interested in coins back when and I really enjoyed what you had to say when you were on that Grading Panel two FUN Shows ago.

Here I am losing my train of thought, I do not like the ANA logo on eBay as long as eBay allows SGS to sell coins there. Is the candidate going to address his feelings on this?

    John,
I think it is great that you will take Julian's advise and join the ANA at this time. I suggest you do it RIGHT AWAY online at www.money.org. I say that because the ballots will be going out in just three weeks and the way ANA is organized you may have to follow-up to be sure you get your ballot. Good luck.

Steve, why would my opponents want to remove me from the board - I am not attacking them. If they try to do that, then they have stooped very low. As I said when I decided to run for the ANA Board that I would not stoop to low-ball tactics. I have kept my word on this. Have they (the opponents)?

    Mike,

As you know, you earned my vote a long time ago. I like the video. I think it's a solid start and this is confirmed by the reaction of the posters to this thread. Just needs a little fleshing out of your main platform ideas. But I think your message hits home with many disenfranchised ANA members who want to see a change toward open policy making and more progressive hobby initiatives. image

I actually already reupped my membership again just to vote for you before this came out. However, the video stuff needs work.

Let me inform everyone that this is my first video and I am using Microsoft Movie Maker. For a first time effort, my video looked pretty good but I'd be open to comments and suggestions, which I thank everyone here for that. Hopefully I can improve with the second video but to be honest, I know that there will be a few people here that will make more suggestions, and I am find with that.

If you wish, feel free to send me a timeline and the assets you wish to use (providing you have usage rights to them all for this project) along with a synopsis of what you'd like to portray with the campaign video and I'll be happy to throw something professional together for you. I suggest you go with actual video of you though, or at the very least a voice over and not 'joe blow' (don't take that the wrong way) pictures of yourself. And keep it to under 90 seconds, preferably 30 seconds to a minute is a sweeter spot. Additionally, if you're going to record a voice over sans a professional setup, at least stick a sock over the microphone.

Just an offer, but only take me up on it if you're serious about it.
