the mint's quality control on this coin was pretty bad, or is this par for the course
for the mint now days ;-)

True. They will indeed, no matter what they say on the phone, certify a blank planchet with the date and mint mark if it is discovered in a bank wrapped roll. They did it with the sacs and they have done it with different state quarters.
  • if they were found in a wrapped roll...wouldn't they designate the mint mark? say 2007 D or P ?...it just say 2007

It must have been a non mint roll, just a string roll, they seem to have a problem giving mintmarks even if 24 coins in a roll have a mint mark, say a "P", they cant be sure its not really a "D" that someone stuck in there.

I call shenanigans on the whole auction. For example, in the picture of the holder, why is the insert upside down?

all the prs dollars are upside down labeled.

Pretty easy to say what the date and president was on this one....it's the only pres dollar so far.
  • The number on the insert checks out. I would link it for you but I don't know how yet.

i estimate this will go for 450 dollars. your thoughts on the final price?
  • I'm curious... how exactly does a Blank planchet get a number Grade?? I mean, being that their is absolutely nothing struck on it, I would think it would get a designation of just MS, or BU, or MS-BU...??

I would assume they take into account the condition of the planchet, for instance contact marks etc. The 62 was largely due to planchets being in somewhat rough shape before getting struck from what I understand.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.

If it is a blank planchet... why is the rim raised? That would indicate 'struck' to me.... I may be wrong... let me know. Cheers, RickO

the rim, the rim. i suspect the item in question, has the rim lettered, and ID'ed that way. and it would grade, as the DATE is readable(?)

Not all, I have 5 that are not upside down.

So, it's may be blank but not unstruck as it went through the "upsetting" process?

It's a completely meaningless designation and hopefully it will sell no more than any Sacajawea blank would.

The pop reports for #11111 show that it is used for "various". 2568 certified! The funny thing is that grades range from VG to MS67

My guess on final price >$1000.00. There are people out there with more money than they know what to do with, unfortunately I am not one of them. I would not be shocked to see $2k or higher, but I am guessing just over a thousand.

I agree...This is definitely going to go over $1000...My guess is $1500....
  • KaelasdadKaelasdad Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭
If it could be used for part of a registry set I could see it going high, but with a generic number like they gave it, $500 seems likely., but there are people with more dollars than sense out there
