Is it time to reconsider the State Quarter FDCC’s?

I know that this series for the most part has been a looser because of overproduction by the US Mint. However, I’ve noticed that the latest FDCC (Montana) has a mintage of 35,000. My question is: Is it time to take another look & possibly start purchasing the upcoming issues?

Depends. Do you think the quick sellout of the GW FDC will spill over and increase interest in the state quarter FDC series? If so, buy. If not...not so much.

Unfortunately...my Crystal Ball is failing me on this one.

Depends on your 'purpose' for taking another look....

Are you looking from the aspect of future profits for the item due to low mintages? If so.... that also depends on future demand. I just don't think these cross-items will have that demand. If the demand is not there.... neither will the profits.

But that is only my perspective.... from my very cloudy crystal ball...... ! Like everyone else, I win some and lose some.

Future profit would be my only driving motive. image

Bob...it's the US Mint's State Quarters First Day Coin Covers ... when they first came out, from what I could gather, the Mint produced 100,000 covers for each state quarter, but they reduced it to 35, 000 on the most recent cover

I predict that these will be quickly forgotten once the State Quarters program ends. They are a "souvenir" item.

I don't think so - there are millions of quarters out there, and the fact that they have 35k of them glued to an envelope doesn't really change the fact that there are so many out there.

    My opinion only.

just remember though... it's "FIRST DAY OF MINTAGE".... with all the fuss about "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" & "FIRST STRIKE"... I would think "FIRST DAY OF MINTAGE" would be the holy grail... something does not make sense here IMO.

The JA$ FDCC would be a better barometer than the GW$ since Washington has a unique aura, to the point of people specializing in Washingtonia.

  • I think one factor why these quarter and dollar covers are not so popular is because you can get these same exact coins at face value from banks. These are not SAEs or GAEs we're talking about. We're talking about clad coinage any Joe can get at face value. It just blows me away that people pay multiples of face value for art work and or labels. I understand these labels are a collectible like anything else..... FDCCs are still luke-warm with an extremely thin market and in my opinion will always remain that way.

  • I'm still glad I bought a couple Washington FDCC.

Do FDIs get more points in the registry? Do FDMs get more points than FDIs in the NGC registry?

I don't see the allure either. But folks do pay much more for a First Strike PCGS ms69 2006 W ASE than they do for a PCGS ms69 2006 W ASE.

PCGS should slab them as "First Day" or whatever they're calling it these days. The FDCC SQs qualify more than most of the ASEs so designated.
