What is the consensus........

in U.S. Coin Forum
on the grading standards since Anacs switched over to the new holder about a year ago? I sent one coin in about the time they switched and I think it's fairly graded. What grade do you think they gave it, and what grade would you give it?

    I would say MS65.

    Always hard to do this from just a pic...even a good one... but I'd say it is an average to low-end 65 or a very nice 64...

    ...and just to add...I have seen coins like this in either grade and in PCGS or NGC as well as ANACS...
    Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

    I agree with what has been said, either a nice 64 or a low 65.

    Probably 64. I'm not sure this would make 5 with that scuff on the cheek.

    solid 64. The major cheek scuff keeps it out of 65 yet not scuffy enough fields for a 63. Therefore, solid 64.

    That is a nice Morgan with clean fields. Guessing by the photos I agree with the consensus so far. image

    I'm about to pick up my first ANACS order. I sent them coins because many of what I sent were problem coins and I wanted that noted on the slab. I know one of the coins is exactly what I felt it should be.

    Here is my take........The obverse is very clean, yes there is a small scuff on the cheek, but the rest of the coin is pristine. I think the obverse is borderline 66 and the reverse is a 64, therefore I think Anacs has the grade right. I can tell you, that the 64 I have in an NGC has many more marks than this coin.

    I think anacs got it right. It is a solid 65 IMO.

    I was going to say 64 but I don't have an argument with it being 65. On another day, who knows what number the "pros" might assign to it though.

    a long long time ;-)

    I have 5 (pre 1936) coins in the new ANACS slabs and I personally think the grading is nearly the same as PCGS and tighter than NGC. I also like the fact that the new slabs fit in PCGS boxes (loosely, but at least they don't fly around anymore).

    Looks 65 to me and VAM-11A. Those aren't scuffs on the cheek. (We should be so fortunate to find a Morgan with such a nice cheek in a roll now and then.) The hit on the forehead is outside the primary focus enough to warrant a full gem grade.
