Is this 1817/3 Bustie sweeet or what......Grade Revealed and Super-Sized Pics added

I've been told the assigned grade is a little conservative. I'm trying to decide what to do with this coin......which is one of my favorites for several reasons.

Grade opinions and comments requested.

Nice coin. I love this overdate. I see a 53-55 slab there, and I would agree with either based on these pics. These are tough in this grade and this one looks like a nice example. A little central weakness common to this marriage may cause a lower grade even though it shouldn't.
    Nice coinimage

IMO.......AU55, nice originality. While this overdate comes weak,
I think your example shows some wear. (hard to nail down from a pic)

IMHO this coin is technically an AU53. However due to the toning and originality i think i see in the pics i wouldn't consider 55 or 58 out of the question!

    Assigned grade AU50...I say it's AU 55.

    Nice coin!!

There is certainly wear, so I'll veto the 64/5 image

I'll guess the holder says 45/50 (conservative PCGS)

I'll give it my grade of 53/55.

Very nice coin you have there. Always a little tough to grade from a pic. but I'll say AU53.

cape, there is no way that coin is mint state. I'm thinking 50 to 55.

How about some better pictures? The scratches on the plastic make it hard to see the coin. My guess is PCGS AU 55. I like this coin!image

You said conservative... I like it as a 50, which means someone graded it it a 45. I would keep it and be happy that I own it.

    Another beautiful Bust half.

I'd have to say its an AU 53 based on the wear pattern...yet remarkably free
of circulation abrasions. Nice pick up !!

    Edited to add:

    NICE OVERDATE !!

Thanks for the opinions.....To me the coin is AU55 max. Probably would end up in a 53 holder if I resubmitted.....but you never know. Blew up the pics for better viewing. The pics don't show the strong clashing in the right obverse field and above the date. It was hard trying to get the color and the clashing to show and at the same time hide the scuffs on the holder.

The 1817/3 O-101a normally has the clashes you see, along with lots of little die lumps. Your coin certainly looks as good as the AU55s I have seen. I spent some time studying this overdate, and your coin blows away an NGC 55 I own.

The attractive toning on your coin might bring you an extra premium as high as 50% over a lustrous flash dipped specimen. A PCGS AU55 could bring 50% more than a PCGS AU50. I paid over $3000 for my beautifully tone PCGS AU55 specimen two years ago. Prices have gone up noticeably since then.

You most certainly need to reholder your coin, so why not submit it for an upgrade instead? Shipping charges are the same.

Here is a NGC 53 for comparison. You be the judge.

    Thanks mozin

I am going to send it in and see what happens. I think comparing it to the other examples posted, it has a shot at 55. The only area of concern that I see which might limit its grade is the flatness/wear on the left wing tip (left-looking at the coin). Although I know this overdate is common with a weak strike, I can't tell how much is from wear and how much is strike related on my coin. But then again, the eye appeal more than makes up for it.
