Today I bought a collection of Buffalo Nickels and Walking Liberty Half Dollars. There were about 300 Nickels in the box. The seller had already gone through it and pulled all the Keys and Semi Keys into a seperate pile. In that pile I found a 14-D. Nice. Paid them well for that. When I got it home, in the unsearched pile, I found a bunch of decent coins with 4 digit dates in the teens with Mint Marks. Nice. Then there was a real nice coin in one of the piles that caught my eye. It was a 13-S Type II!!!
So about now I am happy as a lark. I am thinking I done good. Then I pulled a out another one that looked in real nice shape, and I nearly fell out of my chair. The Buffalo only had 3 LEGS!!!!
All I could think was get it to the post office before it closed. It is now on its way to PCGS. I was in such a rush I forgot to photograph it!

(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?
Keep us updated when the coins are (or are not) graded. These are remarkable finds if true.
<< <i>What about the Walkers? >>
One 38-D and several 17-SO's. Made for a nice upgrade to my set on about a dozen coins as well. The rest will be on ebay soon.

What was interesting was the batch was hoarded by a women whos Children (now in their 60's) sold them to me. She must have known what she was doing because out of 300 or so coins, only about 10 were from the 1930's. One of those was the 3 leg. All the rest was Teen's and 20's.
I just hope it comes back graded. I put it at AU, but I really don't know Buffalos that well with all the mushy strikes and all.

The seller is gonna be shocked when you send him a check for more money, right?
It doesn't have to be much, but good fortune always comes back to you.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

whew!!
I thought maybe you bought your stanps with a few of 'em in your excitement over the nickels!
Great story and you left us hanging by not having taken pictures! You should write novels! lol

Sure 'nough. What comes around (should) go around. Alternatively, bad karma can hurt you at the very worst time.

I can give you a whole list of people who have got more money from me after the deal!!! You should see the look on their faces when I show up at the door and hand them more money.
why would "the seller" be smart enough to know the "Keys and Semi Keys" to pull them out but miss perhaps the most well known variety in the entire series??

They said they knew. They said they got their information on the "good" ones off the internet. The stuff that they did pull were all the not so common stuff, so as I went through that pile it seemed like they knew what they were doing. When I got home and went through the other pile they had checked, I was floored. I easily doubled the number they had pulled. Not sure what happened there, but I will send them some more money.
When a fair deal is struck, everyone is happy and your reputation grows. Fair dealing always pays off down the road.
<< <i>I'd love to see what was in the searched pile.

My thoughts exactly.

The 3-legger being overlooked is more understandable than the 13-S T2 in my opinion. If there were 300 circulated coins in the bunch, the majority were probably later dates. I could see him just ripping through them, possibly thinking they'd been picked through at some point, and flying by the 3-legger.

I wouldn't give them a quarter. I don't understand that thinking at all. You already paid for them, honestly. Done deal!

And I don't understand that thinking at all.
Unless you're a troll.

I have a rule. When I find a coin in something like that, that covers what I paid for the WHOLE collection, I call people up and give them more money. It is good Karma, and it let's me sleep better, and it just seems like the right thing to do.

You might call it a rule, I call it CLASS. I hope you hit a homerun.
