i want my half eagle to be correct for the grade with a crusty orange film and dirt in the cracks, making me think no one has stripped the history from it.
but heck, if there are only 150 left, i will take that F15 without blinking.
I love eye appeal (at least, eye appealing to me). I like smooth color flowing over frosty, unblemished surfaces. So for my purposes, the technical aspect is kind of inextricably linked to the eye-appeal. Usually, but not always.
someone, sorry I can't recall who had it right when they said.. Location, Location, Location... Eye Appeal, Eye Appeal, Eye Appeal I'll take Eye Appeal over a grade point or two 99% of the time.

color for me. I prefer nice circulated coins in the VF-XF range with dark toning as opposed to a shiny, obviously dipped AU or MS coin... plus with the line between AT and NT blurring in MS coins that turns me off even more... of course there are exceptions to every rule.

I agree. I want to enjoy looking at the coin and I want others to enjoy looking at my collection. Eye appeal is most important to me.
However, a coin that is close to perfection is probably going to have a lot of eye appeal in it's own right anyway!
No matter the grade, I like coins that appear well cared for.... usage is acceptable unless I am paying for a proof. Perfection on new mint products. Although I do not care for toning, normal wear and tear on older coins is acceptable. Cheers, RickO
I depends on the coin. I cannot get too excited with an MS70 SAE.

Would I rather have a MS70 Silver Eagle, or a rainbow bullseye toned one? I'll take the toned one.
A blast white MS69 morgan, or a textile toned MS64. I'll take the MS69.

Sure, but apparently it's VERY expensive!

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with technical perfection.
