I won and paid for (via Paypal) an Ebay auction on Monday. Received an email from the seller yesterday stating that he was on vacation and would mail out the coin upon his return next Monday.
So, the coin won't ship out until 7 days after payment was made. I don't have a problem with this, and actually appreciated the note from the seller, and emailed back saying, "No problem, thank you for the info.".
IMO, not a big deal and the coin is worth the wait-
Looking to buy Morgans in ACG, INS, IGA, Old PCI photo, and Hannes Tulving holders.
I think if I was the dealer, I'd take the time out from my vacation to refund your paypal payment, block you, and then return to my vacation. Then just relist the coin when I got back.
<< <i>In a nutshell- won a coin on the bay- 4/01- paid 4/02 via praypal, waited like a nice guy for 4 days to let it sink in- sent an email asking seller when item will ship (1956 ms66 Roosie NGC old slab)- get a reply - on vacation will ship when I get back!?!?
I wait 3 days send anothe remail STATING I paid via paypal and you have 7 from payment to ship item or face the consequences- get reply 3 hrs after- telling me do what I have to they are on vacation. I r PO'D!!!!
I check theirt site- now showing in their store that they are on vacation til 4/17!!!! I send EBAY a non performing seller along with ALL email- EBAY is apologeticand upset- they will contact.
I want the coin- no matter what- I PAID for it- and want it.
Do I neg once I get said item or do I say screw it and notify the Feds of fraud activity THEY have accepted the transfer of my $$ and I have not rcv'd item. (I have really good friends in right places- just waiting for something like this)- then do I go after the MEG group- for allowing such crap
I will out the crap seller in a few days- I want my coin... >>
I understand your frustration...I would be ticked too. They should have suspended Ebay sales or had someone minding the store if they knew (and it appears they did) they would be on vacation. Having said that, I'd wait a bit, maybe email them every couple days, and see how quickly they ship after they return. I really don't think something like this rises to the level of fraud, so I'd wait to see what happens.

If I posted a thread every time a buyer was slow in paying, the entire first page of this forum would be cluttered with them. I received payment today for a $920 item that ended 11 days ago. It's called life on eBay, and the fact is that your reaction to what is in reality a very minor inconvenience is WAY over the top.
<< <i> Do I neg once I get said item or do I say screw it and notify the Feds of fraud activity >>
If you file a false report to law enforcement be prepared that it may well be you that receives a summons, and not the seller. I can't imagine why you would erroneously report the seller to the FBI for fraud AFTER receiving the coin.
<< <i>(I have really good friends in right places- just waiting for something like this)- >>
People who sit around just waiting to find trouble usually find it. Friends in high places that manipulate a situation unfairly in your favor doesn't shine favorably upon your character.
The law gives him at least 30 days to deliver your item. Paypal and ebay policies may differ. You did note his vacation notice on his me page, which is all that is required by ebay. Paypal may well reverse the charge if he didn't ship within 7 days, but you said you wanted the coin, so I guess that's not an option.
I understand being upset that you have to wait, but your reaction to it, your bloodlust, your thirst for revenge and damaging consequences against the seller is cause for pause.
You have too much free time. Get a life. All this over a lousy coin. What difference does it make if you wait a week or three weeks? Who cares! There are way too many more important issues in life to get upset about a delay in shipping.
If you had a customer on the hook who would give you $1000 for this coin if delivered in 5 days I could see your point. But considering life won't be any different for this Roosy Dime in 5 days or 30 days. Take a break, and before you know it this will show up in your PO Box.
Years ago I would anticipate every single coin coming in the mail. It was lunacy. I'd even "stalk" down the mail man to see if he had any REG's for me. These days, I don't even follow when a coin is due in. When it shows up I'm usually surprised.
Morganhunter: either you should stop using ebay, or you should increase your medication dosage. You seem to be unable to handle the normal trials and tribulations of life.
I think Morganhunter has a legitimate gripe. Just stickin' to the auction's terms. But I side with the "be patient" folks. I personally don't get excited about a seller non-performance situation until at least 10 days has surpassed. Then I send a friendly reminder message. So far so good. But my ebay rating is between 25 & 50 so perhaps I haven't had the opportunity to experience a true "dud" yet.
I have learned that if the ebayer is using paypal, then this is a good sign. Paypal provides recourse for buyers and sellers alike who are dealing with deadbeats.
I recently had an experience with a Power"screwer" who had a 30K+ rating but 98.5%. It worked out for me. Maybe it doesn't for others. But as they say "you can catch more bees with honey than you can with vinegar"

I'll do my best to put it in simple terms- AUCTION was on 4/01, paid via PAYPAL on 4/02, sent a email to seller 4 days later asking for just a ship date- that was all- response came back on vacation will ship when getting back. I was not irate about the vacation bit so much- but the seller could have said they would be back on 4/?? date- instead it was the attitude of I'm on vacation leave me alone- and that is what I READ in the message(IT WAS IN CAPS FOLKS).
If you did read you will see that AFTER I recieved their email the STORE was on vacation- not the AUCTION.
Ebay agreed with me on this - I posed the question to you guys and what did I get- take your meds, calm down it's just a coin, blah blah blah.
A few had seen what I was referring to.
Maybe some of you other so called coin wizzards can read, maybe not, but I will say this- Pray that you don't get bit by a seller who was hoping to make a fair score on a coin and did not- so take it out on the person who did get the coin- by taking your sweet time in getting the TRANSACTION completed.
I am not mad that they were on vacation- it was how they said it, and no reasonable assemblance as a seller- ETHICS my fine metal disc friends- ETHICS.
Some of you are right- I should not go to ebay to make a purchase- their are many reputable internet dealers that I would most likely deal with, and those that I feel comfortable with on ebay and here- well if I see something that I want - I'll just ask them straight up for it- and the balance of you new wannabee's can kind of K.M.A.
He was only asking for advice on what to do, not to be judged.
Considering that it involves the bay, it doesn't hurt to ask for general thoughts and experiences.
I had a similiar experience. The first excuse was vacation, the second or third was illness and moving. Finally, after enough people lobbied ebay I got my money back.
Maybe we should suggest to Paypal that holds be placed on funds sent until the buyer receives the product and is satisified with the product. Then allow the funds to be released to the seller.
In a case like this the funds would not be transferred (and for use for the seller) until they uphold their end of the auction.

They already have places like that, they are called escrow services. If PayPal wanted to be an escrow service instead of a payment service they would have started out that way, it is safe to say they will never consider changing now. I am sure they would just say Paypal is not for everyone.
Considering that Paypal is still a relatively new concept that is growing and drawing more attention.
Ebay annouced this week that earnings were up 52% based primarily on Paypal activity.
It took awhile to get consumer rights on home buying and auto purchases. Internet credit card clearing houses may be next.
Here is part of an article I found doing a quick search.
PayPal has been fined by New York state $150,000. In Feb 2004 the International Charter issued a warning to EBay, the parent company, regarding a number of key issues.
Attorney General says the fine was levied because PayPal misrepresented its policy on repayment when merchandise doesn't arrive.
MORGANHUNTER2, I've certainly have had mixed opinions on this matter.
No doubt in my mind, that according to the letter of the law on the terms of use agreements, etc.... you are perfectly in the right and the seller is in the wrong. Shame of him for being on vacation when the auctions ended.
BUT..... I can't help but feel..... that if this made such an issue for you..... it would make me think what else would you find on other transactions to 'make issues' of. I would be very uncomfortable doing business with you... and feeling very guarded. Cannot blame those who would want to block you from their auctions.... I'm sure they are feeling the same way.
Mistakes tend to happen. That's just the way business goes. What really counts is how the problems are corrected. To expect the seller to somehow magically make the item get shipped when he was on vacation....... just makes me shake my head. Patience can go a long way when dealing with these things.
I don't have a side in this but the seller didn't really plan this well. Auction ended 4/1 but on vacation till 4/17. Not a great way to gain a repeat customer.
After reading the sellers negative feedbacks i can see that she has had this same problem quite often. (i.e. slow shipments) Some people do not take ebay auction sales as serious business and go about it casually. I suggest reading someones negative feedbacks before bidding. The powerseller thing means nothing to me-zero,nada,zip. I don't even know why they have it. However, you are correct but too impatient. If you really want the coin as much as you say you want it you will wait for it. When i order something i usually do not care how long it takes to arrive, just as long as it arrives. There is plenty of time for recourse. Haste in matters like this will do you no good. Bob
Why are you buying coins anyway, MorganHunter2? Your memory so bad you don't remember you were gonna quit? Besides, why get bent outta shape about pocket change? This stuff is like city busses. Miss one, and another will be coming right along.
I've always felt your judged by the standards you judge other people, I hope you have your house in order, I buy on Ebay but don't sell but that's just wrong as far as I'm concerned....Sorry

I agree with you in principle, but not method. I agree the seller erred by ending an auction at vacation time. But I also believe in choosing what is important to get spun up about. Late shipment of a Roosevelt Dime is not one of them.
If I read the first post correctly, you now will not get the dime, but a refund. I think if you did not try to make a Federal case of it, you would have your dime on its way to you now.
One point that seems to have been neglected to some extent is the fault of the buyer. If you want to know about a seller research his feedback. Look when an item sold and when the buyer left feedback for them, if they are a month apart then don't anticipate getting your item anytime soon, if its three days later than you know you have a quick shipper.
I have been buying and selling on eBay for six years, you can check my feedback and see that buyers often comment on the quick shipping. I have had sellers that take forever to ship, most of those just sell on occasion and do have some good items, but I know I may have to wait. As for buyers on my auction, if its a large item I will research their feedback history, not just what they receive but what they leave for others. I have in the past canceled bids from those that abuse the feedback system, if it cost me a few bucks in an auction then so be it, but it is one headache I won’t have to deal with. If I don’t like how a seller handled things I will in most cases just not leave a feedback.
On the point of PayPal, in the earlier days of eBay, before they owned PayPal they were against the use of PayPal and made it difficult to use, most of the transactions were check or money order then and things were defiantly slower.
I will say that your reaction was premature and most likely a moment of frustration that you felt you needed to vent about, had you waited a day I doubt you would have even considered posting this on the forum.

While at the cemetary visiting my 15 year old son and while on dialysis today i thought about your problem.
I say you should go ahead and file fraud charges against the guy.
And for good measure Neg him too.
