Strange. Some newb just PM'ed me outta the blue, with a link to an eBay auction.

lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 45,020 ✭✭✭✭✭
Forum name "brinkers". Never heard of him. Red-X for an icon. Asked if I wanted to buy a trade dollar, linked me to an eBay auction.

I replied "no thanks", since the coin was not that great looking and I am not in the market for one right now, anyway. This just came out of a clear blue sky. Is the forum haunted or something?

The reason I ask that is, my reply apparently vanished into cyberspace, because it doesn't show in PM history. Weird.

Anybody else experiencing this phenomenon? I saw some newb being pelted with rotten tomatoes for some reason on the BST, and they called him some name I hadn't heard before. I was clueless to what the whole thing was about, but maybe this was it? PM spam?

Cue the Twilight Zone theme music...

All is well on this end thanks, trust that same applies.

We have been under a veritable blitz of these spammers lately. EZ 20+++ with a lot of them linking an ebay lot and they are paid by the number of clicks. If you see a "tinyURL" in the link, it's a spammer, but it's not limited to just that clue

Otis- You may want to delete his post on the BST Board as well. Thanks for getting rid of him.

Is there a way to make it so that you have to have accumulated 20 posts or so before being able to send a PM or post in the B/S/T forums? This would make it a bit more difficult on the spammers but those who are legitimate should have no problem introducing themselves or contributing 20 posts.

Wholeheartedly agree. We did this on the board I run, and it cut down the spamming almost completely.

Got the same spam. Funny thing is, I wasn't sure if he was just confused, as I have a BST post selling similar dates. Now I know, he was a spammer!
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Hey, cool! I made the front page of the Biddlesbank.com website!

Which I didn't even know existed until smoebody pointed it out to me less than ten minutes ago.

I don't see anywhere to register on those "forums"? imageimage

    Been there. Seems childish.

On the other subject of minimum posts to use the BST, I'd like to see it at 100 posts. Why not ask for a small investment of time before having access to that resource?

And how long would it take to drop down to the testing forum and make 20 or even 100 posts?

Yeah, but one would have to do that with intention. Most of the spammers like brinkers just pop in to send the spam PMs, and then jet. It's possible it's not even a human; just a 'bot programmed to do it.
