There is no date sensitivity regarding this designation. NGC recommends that covers be kept in their shrink wrap outer holder for protection. Any coins submitted in a damaged holder will not be eligible for this designation.

Responding to the Customer without making them jump through hoops is always a nice idea. Let's see what happens!

Guess PCGS may soon follow
Are First Day of Mintage coins true First Strikes? How many can the Mint churn out in a day? How many FDCs will there be?
<< <i>I wonder if they'll do the same with State Quarters. The Mint's been selling First Day SQs for years now. >>
Good point. Is it time to start loading up on FDSHQs?
It seems to me it would be a nice profit center.
<< <i>Guess PCGS may soon follow
<< <i>I guess the NGC FDI designtation is wotrh crapolla now
Let's see what PCGS does
3 orders ready to ship from the mint.

This will usually set off what I call an 'official PCGS information treasure hunt' on the PCGS website where everyone is off looking for an "Official" announcement for what will REALLY be offered when they are graded. The information will usually be disseminated from 'above' in the form of a post on a thread that someone will dig up and present here just as it was done in the other GW thread.
In other words, The Mint upset the grand GW and Presidential First Strike plans and now to accommodate this new Mint offering they are doing us a 'favor' in grading them the SAME as the other FS's. Despite the fact these covers were planned months in advance.
Whelp, PCGS better match NGC, because if they don't, all 400 go to NGC.
Now, I woke up being cynical today, so don't mind me............unless they do nothing on these Cover submittals..........
<< <i>Sooo...If quantities of these 50,000 covers will be sent in to PCGS/NGC for the special designation slab won't this increase the value of the remaining covers kept as received???? >>
That makes perfect sense to me.
I will send in some for grading and keep the rest as is.
Joe
PCGS has said SO FAR, it will not......
<< <i>Good timing for me I should have my Covers by then.
3 orders ready to ship from the mint.

I've got 2 "in the mail" & one on backorder.
It's a shame, that PCGS has a tendency to "follow" NGC with their ideas instead of being the first kid on the block.
Box of 20
NGC has gone from First Strikes to Early Releases. The Mint lists both on their Consumer Awareness page but who knows which one the Mint dislikes more. Will NGC change Early Releases if there are issues?
NGC is now working to help the Mint sell FDCs by giving them a FDM designation.
If the US Mint were to pick an official TPG one day, does it seem like NGC's moves to accommodate the Mint would put them in a stronger position?
It is the First Day of Mintage.
The Mint says so, despite what any TPG says.

I agree coinboy. As I stated before it seems the grading of coins is shrouded in secrecy, programs are announced with little direction or focus leaving the members to ask themselves the details. I like the idea of differentiating between the ones sent in back on Feb 15, otherwise it seems more of same thing, with the exception of higher quantities and higher grading fees.
<< <i>Hugegut is right on, as usual.
It is the First Day of Mintage.

First day of mintage is the way to go.
Joe
<< <i>They are postmarked the 15th. Just like you had to have your bulk submisson to PCGS postmarked on the same date. Its about the postmark I believe. >>
I believe the FDCs being designated as FDM has nothing to do with the postmark on the cover. The US Mint website says the FDC coins were issued on Nov 9, 2006 in Philadelphia and Nov 28, 2006 in Denver:
<< <i>This limited-edition cover—only 50,000 will be produced—features two George Washington $1 Coins from the first day of production, November 9, 2006 (Philadelphia), and November 28, 2006 (Denver). >>
NGC's FDM designation is based on official US Mint information so they are more official than First Strike and Early Releases.
Info from another thread though I don't know how accurate it is.
Rules for presedential coin cover bulk submissions.-
<< We will honor the First Day of Issue, but the submission has to meet the following criteria…
Through Bulk
Minimum 100 coins
No minimum grade
Flat rate of $12/coin
The packages they come in (see example below) are sealed, so we do not require that they send the external shipping box. (Customers do need to leave the cover in-tact—if they remove the coins, we will not honor the First Day of Issue.) They will *not* get the post-marked cover back.
If a customer has further questions, please transfer them to Bulk. >>

66's are now only about $40 so theres no way I'll pay $12 per.
However, the FDM's might do better..who knows
Does anyone how many GW$s have been designated as FDIs by PCGS and NGC?
If there are fewer FDIs do you think that will help FDIs, or will it not matter and people just gravitate towards FDM because it's an official Mint-based designation?
