Spectrum Adds Ron Gillio to Numismatic Team

(Irvine, California) -- Internationally-known numismatic dealer, auctioneer and author, Ronald J. Gillio of Ronald J. Gillio, Inc., Santa Barbara, California, has joined Spectrum Numismatics International of Irvine, California as the company’s Numismatic Acquisition Coordinator.
“Ron’s outstanding reputation for finding and putting together coin deals literally is worldwide. Ron’s work with Spectrum will include purchasing and obtaining consignments for all the Spectrum companies, including Bowers and Merena Auctions and A-Mark Precious Metals,” said Greg Roberts, Spectrum President and Chief Executive Officer.
“Adding him to the Spectrum team will be a tremendous benefit for our clients.”
In addition to his new work with Spectrum, Gillio will continue as General Chairman of the popular Long Beach and Santa Clara, California Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expos on behalf of the shows’ owner, Collectors Universe, Inc. He also continues his retail store in Santa Barbara, Gillio Coin & Jewelry.
“I’m delighted to be part of Spectrum’s exciting and enjoyable projects, and look forward to bringing together buyers and sellers from across the United States and around the world,” said Gillio.
A former President of the Professional Numismatists Guild, life member of the American Numismatic Association and a member of the International Association of Professional Numismatists, Gillio became a coin dealer in 1961 and launched his first coin show and auction in 1967. For more than 40 years he has been an active principal in shows and numismatic auction companies in the United States, Europe and Asia including Pacific Coast Auction Galleries, Butterfield’s, Robert R. Johnson, Baldwin's Auctions of London and Taisei Stamps & Coins of Hong Kong and Singapore.
He is an Official Appraiser to the State of California and served as an auctioneer for the United States Marshall’s Office.
Gillio co-authored the standard reference book, California Fractional Gold, and serves as a contributor to A Guide Book of United States Coins (“the Red Book”) and the Standard Catalog of World Coins.
