Invitation to Join us for another fun "Coin Night in the Philippines"

I'll be heading to the Philippines shortly, and bringing with me an interesting stash of new coins. Everytime I go, Mr. Filam, Bright Young Filipina, Tainohenka, and I get together for a "coin night" swapping tales of our finds and purchases, and oohing and aahing over each others coins.
Very casual. Sometimes, business is transacted but that's not the main purpose (or at least it's not my main purpose, I can't speak for the others). I'll be bringing a nice stash of fresh new US Philippine coins from the states including
-- the rare 1905 20 and 50 centavos proofs, graded Proof 66 by PCGS
-- A dazzlingly nice 1903 toned proof peso graded Proof 67 by NGC
-- A 1904 Peso graded MS 66 by NGC
-- A 1905-S Peso graded MS 61 by PCGS (type 1)
-- A neat, problem-free 1906-S peso, the king of the series, graded AU 55 by NGC
-- A 1909-S peso graded MS 64 by NGC
-- A 1911-S peso, like the 1905-S, extremely scarce, graded MS 61 by NGC
-- And a stash of other, lower denomination US-PI beauts.
The coin nights take place in one of the better hotels in Makati. We usually start when Mr. Filam and I get off work, which is in the evening, after dinner. The date isn't set up yet. If any of youse guys or gals would care to try to join us, let me know.

We do meet for "Coin Night in the Philippines" 3 or 4 times a year at irregular intervals. So if you're serious about it, keep posted.
Welcome Clark Bar 04 to the beautiful and challenging world of US Philippine coinage. I say "beautiful" because, well, as you noted, the coins are beauts. And challenging because -- even though great rarities still go on the cheap -- it's so very difficult to put together a complete date/mint mark set of these coins, in any type of uncirculated condition. The combination of beauty and challenge has made this sector of the US coinage the funnest single segment. So jump on in; the water's fine.
Hello Dimitri: I'll be in Manila on the 24, and few a few more days afterwards. Then, I'll either stay in Manila for an extra week or head on over to Hong Kong. If you're in that neck of the woods, by all means let see if we can connect in one locale or another. If you can make a quickie side trip to Manila, I can introduce you to the "gang."

I'm just sending off 20 raw coins to be graded today, so won't have much new to share, but will bring what I do have.

I'm very familiar with the MegaMall but don't know the Mall of Asia at all. Have e-mailed over to Bright Young Filippina to see if she can help. Will give you her answer when I get it.
Well, Mr. Filam, I'm looking forward to our coin night, myself. It's been too long. And I have two-dozen fresh new beaut's -- plus a spectacular set of the 1906 silver proofs. These are beautifully toned proofs graded as follows by NGC (old label) The 10 centavo: Pr66 ... The 20, Proof 67 ... The 50 centavos, Proof 66 ... and the Peso, Proof 67.
Also bringing, another 3-coin set of gorgeous NGC old label proofs (these 1903s) ... The centavo, graded proof 67 RED, the 5 centavo and 50 centavo, both graded proof 67. But I'm bringing these coins to send back to the states. I think they're going to cross and may even upgrade. They're dazzlers.

The former "Westin" (now called the Sofitel I think) is very nice. There is also a Hyatt nearby and the old Heritage Hotel, if you like a game of blackjack or roulette, is walking distance to the mall.
For real luxury, try the Shangri La or Peninsula in Makati. If you don't travel during rush hour, it's only 15 minutes or so to Roxas Blvd and the Mall of Asia.

The Mabuhay Manor it's within walking distance of the Mall of Asia, Large rooms with two queen size beds and a fold out double sofa bed. Rates are realy low it's like $45 per night.
They also have a private van service that will take you justa about anywhere you want to go and they will wait for you or drop you off and pick you up again when you call them, this cost about the same as the local taxi's. The service and people there are great
It's also close to the Robinson's mall in Makita.
Ending bid of 99 cents, plus shipping.... This is too easy.

That is quite an impressive list of coins that you posted. There are a couple on that list that I would like to have in my collection. Are any of these going to be on the market? Or are you keeping them for yourself.

Am I willing to sell these coins? Selling wasn't the purpose of listing those coins, but give or take a few idiosyncratic favorites, I'm not unwilling.

And Orie, good to hear from you again. Thanks for the lead on the Rizal movie. And did you know that there are coins from the revolutionary government? Not many, but they're beauts. Three different designs, and only a few copies of each.

Rizal has many monuments and parks in his honor around the world. There is also a 1961 Philippine Commem in his honor. Hope someone will put up a pic of this coin. >>

Oh I know they were common but that 44-D was just awesome when I saw it.
I'm in Manila now and one friend (not Bright Young Filipina) didn't know the hotels near the Mall of Asia, but he tells me there's a wonderful strip joint near there, called East Asia. To me, that's useful information and I wanted to share it with you.

I have a Filipina wife and just picked up some Philippine coins at a local show. Couple of bucks each and nothing worth a mint, but it was reading some of JHF's posts last year that made me want to get some...

And Orie: Tuesday nite coin night became "Friday nite coin night in the Philippines," due to the press of business.
But in the meantime, here's one of the coins that will be there. A Proof 1906 20 centavo, graded pr67 by NGC. A rare coin in rare condition and one of the most beautiful coins in my collection.
