So you are admitting that you tried to threaten him with feedback in order for him to take the coin back at no charge? I thought feedback extortion was illegal. I suppose you think you should be refunded the S&H as well? Perhaps you should stop looking at everyone and accusing them as being holier than thou and look at what you have written. You posted your negative opinion on a PUBLIC forum about a seller. Others on that PUBLIC forum disagreed with your opinion so now you have a negative view of those people as well. So basically its agree with you or go to hell, right? I think you needed more hugs as a child or something.
Telling an EBAYer that you will leave a NEG if they do not honor YOUR perception of the contract is NOT "extortion" under the EBAY TOS.
Some extortion examples, according to the TOS:
"I am keeping this nice item. Either send me half of my money back on this item, or I will leave you a NEG."
"Reduce the BIN price by 50% on two listings of my choice, or I will leave you a NEG on the item I just received."
The demand has to be well outside of the scope of what Trust&Safety determines is a "good faith dispute" over the terms of the original contract.
It is ALWAYS a bad idea to threaten a seller with a NEG - if you want him/her to meet your reasonable demand - BUT such a "threat" is not, in this case, "extortion."

Sorry I guess I misunderstood...I thought if the seller did not offer any return policy (it has always been my understanding that no return policy means as is) and you email the seller demanding that he refund the full purchase price or else he would get a neg was a form of extortion.

I like the OP's image better than the ebay seller's. Looks frosty!
I still wouldn't bother with it, just like I don't bother with dealers who post teeny images. OP, you can't expect to see the kind of flaws on an image like that which would even clue you in to the piece's grade, so why should your disappointment come as some surprise worthy of online publication?
The seller should be adding a clear return policy, but at least they offered to take it back. The $35 charge could cover lost time, shipping and packaging, insertion fees, other ebay fees if not filing a "non-paying bidder" mutual agreement, and so on.

Rjsriv: You brought your case before a forum of your peers and it was overwhelmingly decided against you. Now everyone who disagreed is an idiot, self righteous, walks on water etc. It seems to be a classic case of shoot the messenger. It also smacks of gross immaturity to lash out at everyone who tried to point out to you that basically you made an error in judgement for bidding on a coin with pictures that were so poorly presented and no return policy. With so many coins like this on ebay that are clearly imaged and have a full return policy again I ask you: what was your motivation for choosing this one to bid on? Your temper tantrums and name calling plus your "blame everybody except me attitude" has only heaped more ridicule on you. Now place the pacifier back in your mouth, calm down and face the unpleasant truth. Nearly everyone thinks you were wrong. As a seller, I always left feedback after the buyer recieved the coin and stated his satisfaction. This did not necessarily mean leaving feedback, as a notification by e-mail would suffice.
Starting out as a buyer, I just believed it was the buyer who should leave it first. I always believed that the transaction was not complete until the buyer recieved the coin and/or was satisfied. . My only negative was from a loony buyer (that's since been NARUed) that insisted that I should leave it first since he paid promptly. I believe that I read, at that time, somewhere on eBay that this was the normal procedure and sent the link to this idiot but there was no reasoning with him. He waited until he recieved the coin (with which he had no problem) and then negged me. I was my first and only, and it was from a loony who had recieved something like 13 in his first 8 months on ebay.
Russ, you should rethink your position on this,... you've been lucky so far.

BTW, this has been one of the better/worse "trainwrecks" I've witnessed in my five and a half years here!
Too bad ebay doesn't have an arbitration board who can review the arguments from both sides BEFORE a Neg can be entered against EITHER the buyer or seller (ha).
In this case, I happen to agree with the majority. The images do not appear to be doctored. There was no return policy listed, etc.
I too was of the opinion that once a buyer paid I'd leave feedback. After reading all the horror stories I had to agree with those that said it was not a done deal until the buyer had the item and was satisfied. So what i do now is for those customers that i am familiar with i leave it upon payment. For new customers I wait until they have received the item and leave it for me. If they do not leave feedback and a substantial amount of time has gone by and I have the time I'll leave it then. When I am the buyer I do not leave feedback first ever.
Guys like this double zero are the reason that many sellers have a problem with leaving feedback upon payment.

<< <i>Rjsriv: You brought your case before a forum of your peers and it was overwhelmingly decided against you.
Oh yes, and since I would not want the hassle of dealing with you, I will join the throng of sellers who will block you. Dave W
