No, uhm, your scan was just as bad as his.

"It appears that a historically good seller made the mistake
of leaving FB for the unreasonable buyer immediately after
    the item was paid for."

    BINGO.

The transaction isn't complete until the item is in hand. better to wait for confirmation that the buyer is satisfied before leaving feedback.

I bet they buyer would have waited more than he did before he slammed the seller. He came here for some thoughts and opinions, was shown to be in the wrong/unreasonable and his reaction is to go after the seller, AFTER getting both positive feedback ANd an opportunity to return the coin for a reasonable fee.

Again this is exactly why a seller should not leave feedback until they know the buyer is satisfied.

Had the seller used a picture similar to the OP's scan, which clearly shown the hideous toning along the bottom edge of the obverse, I really doubt he or anyone else would have bid according to the grade on the holder. The pictures the seller used did not clerly show the coin and were taken in a way as to occult the fact the coin was lacking in the eye appeal that would go along with the grade on the holder. The seller further more goes on to describe the coin as 'beautiful' which while subjective, I believe any resonable person would not agree with the sellers statement. IMO, the coin was not as described and he should have recourse against the seller through PayPal or his CC company.

Both images were just as bad. The OP can't provide a decent image and neither could the seller. Some people are just challenged in that area.

I appreciate the comments on this thread. Those of you who plan on blocking me for your auctions on SLEAZEBAY, Go get bent. rjsriv,
Wow, what an interesting thread! It's unfortunate you're unhappy with the coin...I got burned a few months back but it only cost me $70 for a raw Barber half. The coin looks much better in the picture than what I have in hand. But, I chalked it up to new buyer's ignorance...I'm extremely careful about buying raw coins now. At least with a certified coin you know that a professional has examined it and can feel some satisfaction that you're not getting skinned. Good luck.

<< <i>I bought this from KMyoung9840ot on ebay last week EBAY#330100278890. Check his scan out. I showed the coin around at a show yesterday and to a person felt the coin was misgraded and not the same as in the pic.I tried to see about a return and the guy wants to clip me for 35 bucks to return it. Ill keep it and hope PCGS stands by its grade guarantee. Check my pic and youll see the hideous toning. it actually looks better in the scan that I did than what it really looks like. It is hazy and hits al over the front. I had one in a NGC 64 holder that blows this away >>

I'm chiming in late, but I think you should just take the $35 hit and send it back. The pictures are poor quality but don't appear deceptive; just by looking at the auction photo's I'd have been worried about that coin.

After reading your pre-emptive feedback and undignified responses, my opinion has changed. You received more than you deserved, and complained when people thought you over-reacted. It will be a sincere pleasure never doing business with you.

This seller didn't screw you. His pictures and description are not the best, but he made a very reasonable "out" for you. I'm sorry you feel justified in being a brat when you hear comments you don't like, but -

If you don't want to be contadicted, then don't post to a public forum.

I think the seller should tell you that a return will no longer be accepted as you ended the transaction with your negative feedback.

Not really, it is easier to take that hit as opposed to taking a 811.00 hit.

Lets see, I can get 94.5 percent of my money back, or live with a dog coin where I am out 811.00.

    Pretty easy for me.

Yes, indeed. rjsriv is now on my Blocked Bidder List. I sure don't need a head case like this bidding on my stuff. He can't come up with any better picture than the eBay seller yet he thinks the seller's pictures were deceptive? People living in glass houses should not throw stones.

Chill out. You made a mistake is all. No one deceived you or cheated you. There was no stated return policy (read: don't expect returns to be accepted). Nothing was particularly misleading. No offense to the seller, but while the image isn't great, it isn't any notably worse than any of his other auction images. Most auctions on eBay have iffy images at best. The coin appears to be original, which to many people would be beautiful. While I may struggle to call it beautiful (hard to say based on the available images), it is a subjective thing so at the very most you could only say that you and him have differing views of beauty. Considering he had no return policy, I'd say the seller was being generous offering to return the coin for $35. I would've taken it as a learning experience, and been happy it only cost you $35 (a small amount of money vs the total purchase). While it is always frustrating to eat a loss like that, it is far better than having too much pride to accept you messed up and simply returning the coin.

While I've never had a problem in the past, this is always why I wait until I know the buyer is happy with the purchase to leave feedback. Even though I offer returns, you just never know what will happen.

I'm learning and don't know exactly how to do it right all the time (buying on ebay), but I don't take my mistakes out on the sellers. Hopefully one learns a lesson or two, sometimes a hard lesson, and then wises up. The coin was hyped but was not misrepresented in the photos. It is in a PCGS slab. I could see the problems easily! Ebay lesson #1: if a coin looks like it may have a problem, then it probably does. At least it is in a PCGS slab.

Sheesh, he could always turn around and get approximately the same price for his coin by selling it on ebay. At least that is what I tell myself when I get burned.

It would be interesting to know what motivated you to bid on this coin. We all seem to agree that the pictures were not clear and offered no attraction for a bid of any amount above blue sheet sight unseen bid. You paid less than that and should be able to sell it into the sight unseen market for no loss.
You apparently thought you had found a bargain that you could easily sell for a big profit and are bitterly disappointed that it didn't work. Your intent to send it to NCS to have it "gussied up" seems to bear this out.
The only way I would have considered buying this coin is for the same reason. ie If it turns out to be a nice coin I will win. If it turns out to be a low end clunker, I bought it cheap and can sell it to a bargain hunter for sight unseen money. Little or no downside risk.
This is probably what the seller did and you can do the same. No foul. Dave W

A fast one? I don't think so. As far as your "longtime dealers" calling it overgraded, perhaps they were using a common lowballing tactic on you. Anyway, the seller provided the same coin as shown in his photos, offered you a return opportunity and you saw fit to neg him. FWIW, I've blocked you from my Ebay auctions.

What part of NO RETURNS did you not understand? I can not believe he even offered to take it back! I hope to God the seller is now smart enough to tell you to take a hike on any refund!
It is not his merit of the coin that anyone relied on but the TPG's, in this case PCGS. So basically you negged the seller for giving you what you wanted, and for the seller going the extra mile to refund you even though he did not have to.
What actually cost you more the $35.00 return charge or the cost of the coin?

You hit the guy with a negative right away. You should have taken the time to calm down first and maybe posted a question as to what to do here BEFORE you gave him a negative feedback. You got caught up in the bidding as many of us do and overbid. Auction items in most cases should not be returnable although coin people for the most part seem to be more lenient. eBay gives you plenty of time to leave feedback. Next time - i suggest that you calm down first, then seek advice and try to resolve the issue, and then after say a month leave negative feedback if you still think the seller deserves it. I, for one, would not have bid even $100 on that auction with those pictures. You have little recourse at this point.

IF YOU CAN"T PUT a good scan and DESCRIBE THE COIN RIGHT -- DONT POST IT. FOAD.
My policy is: " If the scan or photo is not good, I simply DONT BID."

rjsriv, It seems like you don't understand how eBay auctions work. It's buyer beware. There is nothing unusual about this auction that makes it stand out from the rest, except possibly that the seller was being nice to you by allowing you to return the coin when he didn't have to.

If you want to change this situation, you might have to change how eBay auctions work in general which is a much larger task.
