Buffalo Gold Rumor

Ok so I was watching coin vault this morning and Chambers was selling the 2007 Gold Buffalos and he made a comment that the Mint may not be continuing this series in 2008. Or at least may be changing the design of the 24 Kt gold coins.
I do believe he has connections at the mint. Was he just saying this to boost his sales?. Anyone know of any lesgistlation that requires that these buffaloes be made indefinetely?.

That would be my guess.

This is why Chambers says anything. The truth of the matter is entirely secondary.
I haven't heard anywhere else that the Mint has decided to make a design change in 2008.

<< <i>If I'm not mistaken, I think the enabling legislation allows the mint to change the design. Except that the first year of issue had to be the obverse design of James Earle Frasers original Buffalo Nickel.

Exactly correct. The Mint may change the design if it wishes to. It does not have to.
By the way, a dealer friend in Arizona says he has seen an ad taking "pre-orders" or something like that for a 1/10 oz Buffalo gold at $75. There is some wording that they have to wait for your check to clear. Since the 2006-W gold eagle sold for $85 last year and there will be no generic 1/10 oz gold Buffalo this year, this sounds like a mighty scam. Does anybody have a copy of this they can run on here?

One of the questions, though, was whether the Mint should change the design of their .999 bullion coins every year, every few years or not at all. They plainly are contemplating the prospect.
(For the record, I voted not to change it. I think the Buff design is a classic and very good looking, particularly in the gold).
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
<< <i>A marketing company hired by the Mint sent out an invitation to participate in a lengthy online consumer poll about a month ago. It was anal and tedious (took about 25 minutes to plow through it).

They could revisit the older coins every year. Mercury Dime, Flying Eagle cent, or anything that you like and change it every year.
Think about it. What's the difference between the 2006 Gold Buffalo and the 2007? The last digit in the date.

Otherwise I will stop at the 2006 example that I have.
Yes, the Law says this COULD very well be the last year for Buff design, but not the 1 ounce Gold Bullion coin.

No I haven't heard of any lesgistlation (legislation) that they would make these coins indef. News to me, but thanks for the info if correct.

bull elmoer extraordinaire..........
How about some fractional 24kt 07 buffs. A 1/4 oz. buff would be close to the size of a nickel, real cool.
Agreed, and I hear they are planning to make fractionals, both proof and "W" uncirculated.
I wonder if there will be problems with the date wearing off?
