SSSLLLOOOOWWW...Is it me or what?

Slow as in it takes a long time for the windows to render on my screen when browsing the boards here on CU. I just did a diagnotics check and I'm downloading at 5.635 mb/sec out of a total possibility of 6.0. So I know it's not my ISP.

Is anyone else experiencing latency on these boards recently?

I know TDN and a few others have been paranoid about CU pulling the plug on the boards because due to OF behavior and OT posts. But I don't think they'd deliberately slow us up. Perhaps the posting community has reached a threshhold and the number of posts has reached a critical mass to slow us all down.

I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing the problem with web browser boggin down while browsing on CU.

I'm connecting via ComCast broadban and all other sites are loading a fairly responsive speeds for me.

  • Its funny you should mention slowness here... this is the one website (other than Google) that is working for me right now. All night I've been trying eBay, MySpace, LiveJournal, my email at Excite, and Photobucket.com (none of the pictures posted on the forum are showing up) nothing is loading. Very frustrating! image

It's been intermittant for me over the past week. Perchance I have an issue that I must take up with ComCast. Thanks for the replies though.

    Cheers! image

    Go to your start menu
    Go to run
    type in : chkdsk
Clear cookies, history, etc through your tools menu.

  • i have found PHotobucket very slow the past week or two; i think it's their adware thats trying to slow things down.
When i use Mozilla/Firefox things move much faster; try it, I have a much better experience than with IE.

Been there done that TwoSides! I'm running Windows Xp profession SP2. I did the checkdisk. I ran the disk defrag and I ran a complete virus scan and spyware check. Tonight I seem to be doing fine performance-wise but over the past 2 weeks I've experienced significant performance issue.

Since most respondants to this thread are doing OK, that leads me to believe that my issue is localized and has nothing to do with CUs servers.

    Thanks!

Go to the NGC boards for a while. You will think this place is turbocharged in comparison.

Yeah! I've been there a few times and it is definitely sluggish. But I've been surfing these boards for 9 months now, and I've never experienced the lag that I've had in the past 2 weeks. You may be aware that Adelphia folded its tent up awhile back after their Enron-like scandal. As a result Time-Warner and Comcast split ownership of Adelphia's former assets. I ended up with Comcast like last November. Consumer reports did a survey of broadband providers and Adelphia was considered the worst with Comcast a close secdond. So I seem to have migrated from the worst cable broadband provider to the newly worst cable broadband provider. Woe is me! image
