Is QDB is the Elvis of Numismatics?

lsicalsica Posts: 1,759 ✭✭✭✭
Do people go up to him at shows, and ask to have their photo taken with him, and do they ask for his autograph? I'm curious....

Does he dress like Elvis? Do teenage girls have posters of him?

I do not recall them announcing that QDB has left the bourse to calm down overly excited teenage girls. And is there a numismatic cult that tracks QDB sightings?

I had him sign my Encyclopedia of Silver Dollars that i picked up at the table right next to his. Other then the occasional book signing -- nope not elvis.

Now from Longacres point of view... well elvis may be an understatement image

There are people who do ask for QDB's, Ken Bressett's and Ron Guth's autographs, but their groupies tend to be older men and not screaming teenage girls.

I've heard that in the past there were people tracking Walter Breen sightings...then using that information to decide whether to or not to take their kids to a certain coin show.

I would really like to see QDB in an Elvis suit, if for no other reason than to feel like coin nerds are, as a class, ultra cool.

At the Baltimore show he tossed me a sweaty towel that he used to mop his brow. I shrieked like a little school girl.

Sure. Jesus was one of the guys on the crew who performed our lawn service when we were in Houston. And as I recall, he wasn't all that big.

Actually I think QDB is more like the Fred Rogers of the Numismatic World.

    image

And from what I've heard, Laura is becoming the Elvis of the Numis World. Or should I say she is becoming the Elvira of the Numismatic World?image

I remember seeing Dave Bowers at a CSNS spring show in the 1980s making a brief statement before the start of an auction. I thought
"Wow, Dave Bowers live and in person". I should have asked him to autograph the auction catalog but it didn't cross my mind at the time.

If Dave Bowers is the Elvis of numismatics, then Mr. Eureka must be its Ian Dury.

The turn this thread took is demeaning in my opinion. Hardly something to chuckle about.

If so, I sure hope he understands my reference to Lennon's quote then and doesn't think he really comes off that way.

Hmmm... Since Elvis didn't write a lot of his own material, I think the Elvis/QDB comparison doesn't work. Perhaps it would be better to say that QDB is the Harold Arlen of numismatics.

Would that make Pistareen the Marvin Hamlisch of numismatics? image
