An interesting observation on your part. Ocean in view, keel boat, bisons, peace medal...rare to see any of these in change and there were hundreds of millions of each minted. If there are 350 million people in the US (at least ones we know about), there should be at least a few dozen of the new commemorative nickels for each person. I pick through my change daily and my wifes change at least once a month (she keeps it in a jar) and I might have 4 or 5 View nickels, maybe the same number of peace medal nickels and scant few keel boats and that's in about three years? So, yeah, I hoard them yet there are so few in my nickel bag.

Somehow it's hard to imagine someone hoarding View nickels...I could see keeping peace medals or the keel boats because the design is so cool but where are the circs?

And in 30 years they will flow from the deceased like 1976 quarters. more in change today than 30 years ago.

I leached all of my local banks and have $500.00 worth in bank rolls. I think I'm going to list them on the BST board as they are taking up too much space.

I rarely see one in change. This may be the most hoarded coin since the Kennedy Halves of 1964.

I just searched $2 in nickels after reading this post. 3 Bisons

I grabbed $10 in nickels as an experiment during lunch and will check the rest later.

The lady at the bank asked me why I wanted nickels. I told her that I wanted to look through them. She said that only one other person gets rolls of nickels right now-- some lady that pulls out all the bisons.

Come to think of it I only received one bison nickle in change and none of the others, I myself have 1 roll of each in P & D of all the westward journey nickles, so I am guilty of hoarding a couple hundred.image

I posted a thread a couple of years ago about this. I called this issue the most hoarded coin since the 60's. I have boxes and boxes of these in unopened Mint boxes. Grand total of over over 15,000 being hoarded by me alone. I suspect in 20-30 years they will be common coins, but until then.........

Everytime I see the bison, I get excited thinking its a buffalo nickel, but then I flip it over and am disappointed to see Jefferson

I have a bunch left over from cherry picking bags.
I spend them all the time but in North Carolina I never or at least almost never get them in change. Maybe I should start counter punching those I spend to see if they ever come back.
