I just pulled the trigger on this........

Granted the photos are not that great, but I've been pleasantly suprised by every one of these old ANACS certificate coins that I've purchased. I think the coin is higher than VF30, and appears to have some luster peaking through. What is your opinion?

A nice 20 center?

It certainly looks better than VF30. The reverse looks AU.

My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.

Hopefully, that's actually the coin pictured on the cert.

Yeah, that is a risk you run with these, but there should be enough identifiers once in hand.

Kinda tells you what gradeflation has done if this was a 30 back in the day...

Tought to tell from the photos. The last anacs photo cert I bought was a PF60 1880 Indian Head, that came back as a 63BN. It is kind of apples and oranges though. Here is my current 20 center in my collection. I paid XF money for it.

Perfect! I found a '72 DDO Die 3 Lincoln in change when I was a kid...I sent it to ANACS for the certificate...I still have it!
I love those old photo certificates...

Looks like it was cleaned many years ago. That kind of toning isn't the type you see on original VF30 coins. The photos sure aren't much.

Both coins posted so far are handsome 20-cent pieces indeed.

Here is one of mine. I have two and submitted one to ANACS recently at the Charlotte show, but I don't even remember which one. Neither of mine are particularly high grade, but they are both nice lower-grade pieces. Both are 1875-S and VG-ish, but I think I graded one of them VG10.

I can't remember if it is this one or the other that is getting slabbed, on a lark.

Looks like it should grade around XF40 now. I think you did pretty well for the price and the old photo certificate adds another more coolness to the coin.

Very nice XF coin by now. They tried split grading for a short time--i guess it didn't catch on and it did not last very long. image
