Whether or not this auction was/is a scam...and there is a 99.999999.......% chance it is...apparently HE DOES need the money...especially if he payed for all these won items by credit card and doesn't want to get stuck with major interest charges...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free
Mark is one of nicest and most honest guys in this field today, and his knowledge is incredible also. I guess maybe some of his love and passion for for being a descent, honest and good- hearted gentleman might have dribbled down a bit from his good friend and teacher John A. ????

This guy has some issues, both cognitive ("conflict of interest"? huh?) and emotional. At least he got rid of his NGC-tag origami and is now running a more pedestrian scam. Less amusing, though.
So, out of academic interest, I am wondering -- where is the wear on this Morgan? On the hair just above the ear? Or is that just a typical strike weakness? Since the coin is reportedly an AU58, is it possible that its wear may not be discerned in a photo?
Well, I should also admit that I just bid ten bucks on the coin. I was going to bid fifty, but then I saw that shipping is 39.95.

Keep in mind that this is a condition rarity. For condition rarity Morgans -- '84-S, '96-O, '01-P, et cetera -- the TPGs will find the tiniest little thing to knock the coin down to 58. It's reasonably likely this coin would grade 63 if it were an '84-O or an '81-S.
That's one of the things that really bugs me about TPGs -- they make "condition rarity" a self-fulfilling prophecy by holding them to much tighter standards. Had this seller simply said that this coin could reasonably graded 63 with an O-mint mark, I'd consider it hype but quite probably true. But to say this should be a 63+ as an '84-S -- a date the TPGs are known to pick apart for the slightest flaws or possible rub -- I have to shake my head...
Just looked at the re-listed item...there's so much CRAP in it that it cuts off on the right side of my screen! Even if I hadn't read this thread I would've skipped this auction...any time I see one with that much writing talking about bad bidders, reasons for not accepting PayPal, etc., I skip it. IMHO- The perfect description should "sell" the coin to a prospective bidder in an honest, informative way. This isn't even close.

Well, it's still up for sale seven hours after Heritage sent a "guy on the plane first thing this morning" to buy that coin. Quick, steal that sucker for around $1k from right underneath Heritage!
Guy is way off the deep end, alright. He's retired, he has medical bills, he just bought two matching Benzes (well, at least this four-year-old, 130k mile, $11k example), God loves him, and so on.
Is the question stating that the ANA is demanding sellers to stop using NGC price guide figures -- unless selling a coin in an NGC slab -- for real? If so, good for them.

If there was a way to put an English language butcher on trial this guy would be in pole position. There may well people that bust coins out (risk junkies??) to resubmit them. I can't see anybody in his/her right mind doing that with a condition rarity worth tens of thousands of dollars. I have been wondering in the past days what this guy is smoking. Colonel E. H. R. Green encased one of his Inverted Jenny stamps (a block of 4 sold for $2,970,000 at an auction in 2005 - Siegel Auctions) in a locket he gave to Mabel Harlow (his wife). He was rich enough to be able to afford it. This guy seems to have a lot of problems.
Possibly we are treating somebody who is not 100% in possession of his wits as a scam artist while he just may need medical attention of a different kind than the sort he claims to need or have needed.

This guy must know that a huge percentage of his audience know it's a scam; just hoping that small, uninformed group of bidiots sees it.
At this point I think he just wants attention -- even more attention than what he says God is paying him these days. Best to stop sending him fan mail, and grab the coin if you're really daring.
For a guy whose name is 'sellingmycoincollection', he sure isn't selling much. He's also still buying coins- his feedback just went up from 6 to 7 from a $2.50 Indian he just bought...even his name is a lie!
