    Out frickin' standing Russ!

I'm not that good at these without the book so I may be totally wrong but I think it's the LM10 and an early die state one at that. Later in the life of this marriage a cud developes from TY to S9 to rim between S9 and S10. It looks like the crack that makes this cud is on your coin.

You should probably stick to your "ACC" graded modern bullion. image

I think I'll keep all my 1/2 dimes for a rainy day.

and Hey!, don't make fun of ACC. They make alot of slimy ebay people alot of $$$.

I normally prefer a seated half dime above any other half dime, but this definitely is an exceptionimage

OK, just to set the record straight.....

I DON'T think this 1/2 dime is AT, I was trying to be funny. Man, tough crowd.

I DO, however, think it's a tad overgraded, just like GoldenEyeNumis. said also.

BUT, being it is such a rarity, I think it adds a point or 8. by NGC anyways.

SO there.......the peon has spoken again!

  • Sure, Russ's coin is fabulous, but Baley's has character. (Plus is something that I could possibly buy, while Russ's is something that my wife would kill me if I bought!)

Half Dimes look great in large pictures, but they are so darn small when in hand.image Maybe I looked through too many rolls of Lincolns when I was a kid.

I agree. They are definitely a coin for younger eyes than mine. Not as bad as three cent silvers, though!

Interesting die marker at exact center of the reverse. Reminds me of the 1884 Morgan dollar VAM's 3 & 4 with similar raised dot of metal on obverse(adjacent to Morgan's monogram) that appears to have been the result of a mint worker's test of the die, possibly for hardness. Any H-D specialists here care to comment?

beyond description. Great pics Russ of a true great piece.
    WOW---what a coin.

That's obviously a beauty. I almost bought a 1795 Half Dime last week in F-15 to VF-20 condition, but had to pass it up.

    That one is just breath-taking.

Centering dot. There's also one on the obverse right behind her ear.

my understanding of the centering dot is that a compass from that point was used to incribe concentric circles about the periphery, into which the engraver would punch the letters and stars of the legend. Is this essentially correct ?

Baley, that is correct, according to all research thus far. Beautiful half dime Russ. That looks like a real Unc, as opposed to some of the MS61 slabbed 1795 5C pieces out there (NGC...cough.....NGC).
  • I always wanted one of them but never could afford one. Maybe next life.image

Luster breaks on the chin, nose, above the eye and on the high points in the hair. I love this coin, but if it we're dated 1895 it would be an AU-58.

Great coin...it may be a tad overgraded as others have said, but still really cool!

But so small...if it weren't in plastic I'd be afraid I'd lose it! image
