Wow, "centsles" is sure betting the ranch on the smooth edge Wash $1 . . . . . .

ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 13,275 ✭✭✭✭✭
In fact, it looks like he is trying to corner the market!!

Looks like an average buy price of about $100 each. Each of the 6 pages of his recent buys is full of them -- I would estimate he has about 500 now, and still buying.

Verrrrry interesting . . . . .

He's dollar cost averaging down, then it's simple supply and demand. The more he takes off the market, the less available to those who want them, then prices eventually rise. You will see he will slowly start selling them in about 6 months.

Even though I personally have been burned by Centles NNC "TPG" grading, the guy is a shrewd businessman.

He has a hunch and he's betting with both hands. I suspect he has more insight than I do, so I commend him for his confidence.

I own one, so I hope whatever he thinks will happen is right.

Another possibility is that there is a ready buyer such as TV coin show, at a higher price. In that scenario, little to no risk for the middleman.

or maybe he's the smart one. Ethics and market sense are two different attributes. Perhaps he knows more that we do...or perhaps he will be shown to be senseless. I personally have no idea.

I think he'll do very well. I did well buying Wisconsin Extra Leafs for $50 each in the beginning. In hindsight I wish I had cornered the ebay purchase market. If he's buying them all at $100, that's what they are worth at a minimum. Try and out bid him, I say.

    EagleEye,

You did much better buying coins where there were just a few thousand at $50ea. I know that at that time, early 2005, noone knew how many there were. But this guy is buying at $100+ per coin and we know that there may be hundred(s) of the thousand(s).

    I'm waiting for $50.image

Yea, I guess it depends on how deep his pockets are. But still, I was buying Wisconsin's at $50 anticipating them to be very common.

You hope he's right about NNC overgrading them, failing to catch the fakes he is probably buying, and that he can sell them to newbs that don't have a clue about the coin market but are buying them because they saw an AP story that drew their interest?

I'm wondering if they will end up in NNC MS-68, MS-69, and MS-70 holders.

Isn't Fla the only place they have been found?

If so, He may be right. The mintage is much lower than expected.
    50,000 or so?

I bought 5 and will get back next week from NGC.

I saw on the news that some were found in Los Angeles -- someone found 70 of them in a bag of 1,000 in downtown LA. I happen to be in town on vacation right now so I'm trying to grab some. No luck so far: (a) it's been hard finding banks that have any and (b) the few rolls I've been able to get from banks haven't had plain edges.

On the plus side though, I've been having fun spending these dollars around town. image

    Robert:

    No, no and no.

What I hope he's right about is that they turn out to be much rarer than what some of the big mintage estimates suggest, that market demand for them keeps growing, and prices keep going up.

Just got an email from centsles with a link to this page. I guess he was submitting them all to NGC:

centsles has NGC65, 66, and 67 Smoothies for sale here

Based on his average cost, and the costs of certification, he stands to makemore than a 100% profit on the 65s, and much more that that on the higher grades.

BTW, I don't like SPAM from anybody. I get SPAM from Don Rinkor, and I find it just as irritating as SPAM from Centsles. And, Don is a good guy - but I've never bought anything from him. He added me to his SPAM list after he bought from me.

I must be a perfered customer, I just got this email from him. I've never had any trouble with this seller but like most dealer with wears to sell you have to use your head.

CENTSLES NOW HAS FOR SALE A LIMITED QUANTITY OF GEORGE WASHINGTON $ MINT ERRORS WITH THE LETTERING MISSING FROM THE EDGE GRADED MS67 MS66 & MS65!!

    NGC MS65 ONLY $300 each
    NGC MS66 ONLY $600 each
    NGC MS67 ONLY $1800 each
These are all in the new NGC Slabs where the edge of the coin is clearly visible.

The storefront address is http://corporate.marketworks.com/awstore/centsles where you can check out the scans and grades of the available coins and you can purchase them there.

We are selling these 1st come 1st served to our ebay customers. There is no edge lettering and it is our opinion that this error has so much going for it that the sky is the limit as far as potential value. As of March 14th our sources told us that the total certified population in all grades by NGC was less than 1000 coins. In Gem grades this coin is rare and it seems that the mintage of this error may be lower than first thought. The date 2007 and motto IN GOD WE TRUST were not struck on the coin's collar on an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 coins out of a total mintage of 300 million plus for non errors. This is close to the estimated mintage of 1955 Double-Die Pennies that are now worth $25000 in MS65 Red. In stock and ready to ship . A large TV Promotion of these in much lower grades (ICG MS60) sold out at $399 each this week . They will be sold again this weekend for $499 in ICG MS60. As of last night NGC MS65's sold on Ebay for $350 to $495 each. NGC MS66's sold for up to $860 and there was only one MS67 and it sold for over $2000.

On the surface, this sounds like the WI extra leafs, with one exception, we never stretched the truth like these guys are doing. We were forthcoming with accurate information and it seems like these promoters of a different cloth. Lets see what happens.

Also, the sets we initially graded and sold were going for more on ebay the next day. I don't think that is the case here.

Let me say that I have no problem with Centsles and if I did not like a coin he sent an instant postal money order refund. Nice and clean to do business with and very reasonable shipping. I just received another notice, exactly the same as the first one offering the NGC certified GW Dollars.
My question would be, and maybe I should ask them, what is the difference between the $1800. & the $2500. NGC MS67 Dollar?
