I will not make friends on Ebay with this ad language. GW dollar warning to buyers.

Good thing I have a day job, and don't depend on Ebay sales for my living. I am adding this language to all of my auctions as of this morning.

================================================================

This is a plain, no letter edge George Washington dollar removed from a roll on March 2, 2007. Shipping is free. I

am not a dealer. I am a collector. I found the coins in bank rolls. I pay shipping and insurance so the auction

hammer price is your total cost. Guaranteed to be the authentic error coin as reported by news media on March 7,

2007. Don't fall for hype this are the acutal Godless George Washington dollar coins. They were shipped to Florida

by the Federal Reserve, these were found in Florida by me and I will ship upon payment. Paypal preferred but other

payment methods welcomed as well.

NOTE: The reverse letter coins being sold as errors ARE NOT ERRORS. One half of the normal George Washington coins

struck by the mint (150,000,000) will have edge letters pointing towards Washington's head. One half of the normal

George Washington coins sturck by the mint (the other 150,000,000 coins) will have edge lettering point towards

Liberty on the reverse of the coin. Before you spend money on those coins, talk to a coin collector please. Even

if you do not buy a coin, or coins, from me please protect yourself. DO NOT BE FOOLED.

My coins, found by me in Florida, are the authentic error coins as reported across television, newspapers, radio and

magazines.

Thanks for looking at my auction.

A good honest message to those who otherwise may be parted from their money. I would change the syntax/spelling of this sentence though:

Don't fall for hype this are the acutal Godless George Washington dollar coins.

    To:

Don't fall for hype. These are the actual Godless George Washington dollar coins.

    Hi Rick!
Just wondering how you know this? Is it posted on the US Mint website, or documented anywhere else?
    Thanks!

Good going, Rick. I have seen some other eBayers with similar language in their listings. The problem is that the listing expires and so goes the warning. Or, it gets buried in the 6,700 listings on eBay. Nevertheless, I applaud you for your honesty and concern for the potential victims.

We know this cuz they run 50/50.

Now semantics aside, yes they can be considered a variety but an error?

What are reverse letter coins? We all know what you are talking about but a lot of the people being scammed do not. I would suggest.

NOTE: The "Upside down letter" coins being sold as errors ARE NOT ERRORS. One half of the normal George Washington coins

I phrase it that way because most of the scammers refer to them as upside down letters, not reverse letters. Other than that I think it is great.

Excellent. It's good to see frank and sober honesty on those coins. The market may very well still price them up high in speculation and you deserve every cent you make based on that. Good luck with them.

What I wonder about is how many enterprising ciminal minds are going to buy these plain edge dollars, return them but actually return ordinary ones, demand refunds, neg the sellers, and then resell them under other IDs having squashed their competition. Always risks with raw coins.

    Dave:

I have discussed this with at least 10 numismatic experts (my categroization as expert) as well as members of the media and the opinion is 100% that these are not errors. It is simply a part of the production process: coins are put into the edge lettering process without regard to orientation of obverse or reverse. The mathematical law of large numbers tells us that one half of production will be one way, one half the other. Actual experience may be that one side is biased towards falling to face up; it may be that the ratio is 60% to 40% or something like that. We could conduct an actual experiment using thousands of coins and numerous repetitions to derive the actual ratio. This is not an error state.

Only one problem, I see. No fools are left out there paying $100 for the " upside-down" lettering error. I think the fools rushed in and the angels feared to tread. image

If you want to help the unfortunate, get your lawyer friend to get money back for the dummies. Anyone who paid out $100 for a bogus error coin is likely to spread venom about the hobby for the rest of eternity. Not a good thing for anyone.

I notice there is a sort of backlash going on against any Wash offering with the words "error set" or any mention of "upside-down". Education seems to have spread fast on the 'bay.

I have not had time to do much looking around on this issue today; I am glad to see that maybe the charlatans' work is being exposed.

BTW if anyone wants to use my language as a foundation for their own warning/disclaimer/whatever-it-is, please feel most free.
