How long do I wait for a non-paying buyer before re-listing the coin? UPDATED I have been paid all
I have a number of buyers from Saturday/Sunday who have not paid; have not emailed or responded. I emailed Monday and today. How long does protocol suggest I wait before cancelling the transaction?

<< <i>The auctions just ended this weekend? You're kidding, right?
Russ, NCNE >>
No Russ, it is a valid question and I appreciate any guidance. I have never sold on Ebay and do not know how this is done.
Rick
Good eBay protocol would have been for the buyer to advise you they were paying by personal check in this case, but they're not required to do so.
Relax until at least next week.

I am selling GW smooth edge dollars. Rather I was selling, I shut down yesterday and this morning because I am out of the coins I found.
<< <i>I'd send them at least 2 invoices / several emails after 3-4 days >>
If you did that to me, it would be the last bid you ever got.
What is with you people? Not everybody lives on the internet. Not everybody pays five seconds after auction end. If you make these kinds of silly time demands, you'll do nothing but lose customers.

GW DOLLARS!!!
<< <i>I only ask to let me know if paying by check or MO..........then I'll still give em a week before I email them. They know they bid and I don't "need" the money. >>
Thanks for the advice. In my initial invoice I say please drop me an email if paying by method other than Paypal. All of those I initially asked about had not responded to the invoice at all.

Exactlt.
I put no time constraints in my auctions and wait for the payment.
Is that right?

<< <i>So smooth edge dollars went from 50.00 to 250.00?

Highest is $438 I think. Seems to be steady at $ 225 +/- $25

Some people will just mail their payment and never contact you by email at all. Even if you ask them to.

Take it easy there Tex it's only Wednesday!
All kidding aside, most people do pay right away (Paypal).
Many who send payments in the mail often do not use the "check out" feature unless you invoice them a couple times and depending on where they are mailing their payment from, it may take 3-4 business days. Most probably did not send out payment until Monday or even Tuesday. Especially if your auctions ended later on Saturday or anytime on Sunday. So you may start seeing some payments sometime between Thursday and Saturday.
Here what I would recommend: Send them an invoice with a hard but reasonable deadline. For example, send them another invoice and let them know that you expect at least a response by Sunday (as to what they are doing). This way you will at least know their intentions. If they still do not respond, report them as a non-paying bidder. Sometimes once this happens they will pay. If not EBAY will email them on your behalf if they do not respond after one week they will refund your money and you may relist the item.

These are some good points. But you have to remember there are different perceptions of what is acceptable and "it takes all kinds". I do think that 28 days would be considered way too long (for some of those that live on the internet). I actually had someone request a refund and reported me as not sending an item when I sent the item and sent him the tracking number! It had been sitting at his post office for a week. I called EBAY and they contacted him and suggested he go get his package. Ebay is actually reasonable if you have the correct paper trail. Just remember once you list something on EBAY, you're now working with people whose perceptions of acceptable, unacceptable as well as overall ethics may be completely different than yours. The true dirtbags always offer the best sob stories and it's often more difficult to spot a liar over email!
With that said, I allow 12-14 days for a buyer to give me some sort of response after the 12th day a request he respond within 48 hours. I DO NOT THREATEN I simply request that he let me know what his/her intentions are by a certain day. If I still hear nothing then I escalate with ebay. I have had 1 escalation and that was after no buyer response for 2 weeks.

Thanks for the wonderful guidance. Since most of these folks got plain edge GW dollars for $50 or so, they have mostly paid me in the last three hours since the coins are selling for $400 each on Ebay now. They may not 'live on the Internet' as Russ correctly points out but they seem to have heard about the spike in prices.

I'm an ebay buyer. Usually pay same day or next day. I think this is a very reasonable suggestion and I would expect 99% of ebay buyers would agree. Of course there are always exceptions.
Remember it is a two-way street when dealing on ebay or with anyone else for that matter. As a buyer I don't start to worry until about 14 days has passed. Although I'm not a high-volume buyer on ebay, we all experience the same risks whether we buy or sell at whatever level.

<< <i>I state clearly in my auctions that the winner has 5 business days to pay. I feel that's a reasonable period of time. I'd send them at least 2 invoices / several emails after 3-4 days if there's no contact from them before relisting and claiming a non-paying bidder. >>
If you give them 5 business days, why do you bug them at least twice before the 5 days are up?
