At first when I heard about them honestly I was not interested. But they grow on your after a while, and I will complete a PCGS Registry set in both MS and PF of these.
I need to see them in person. I don't care for Washington's pic, but I might like them better in person.

i think they are ugly but fun to spend and a nice convo starter. Since ive been spending these coins i have found out that there are quite a few people in my town that have old coins in their proverbial "sock drawers".
The coin itself and find and handy for everyday use. It would be better if the $1 bill were eliminated.
As a collectible coin, it sucks. Unless we elect a President that gives a crap about coin design like Teddy R., our coinage will suck for the forseeable future.
Ugly... and there was no need to be ugly - and no need for presidential coins... could have been flowers, cities, naval ships, medal of honor winners etc etc etc..... just not ugly... yuck.. kakak poopoo.... Cheers, RickO

I told a U.S. Mint employee at the ANA world fair of coins that I was sick and tired of Dead Presidents On our coins and they needed to be more Beautiful works of art.. You would have thought I'd shot her or something by the look on her face,, ,, Now, Look what they've done.. There ALL going to on our coins now...
When I got the coin that had a picture of a rat on it I first thought "Hey, the George W. Bush presidential dollar coin is out already!" but then I realized it was just a CEC token ...
I am satisfied. At first I was not sure but it grew on me. I will collect the proofs and maybe try for a couple of MS but otherwise I will have fun spending them and seeing the faces of the tellers when they see something new.
I took some to the post office today and they were thrilled to see them.
THE WASHINGTON DOLLAR COIN -------- Very plain and simple. lacking the hairline detail of a Morgan or Walker. The Washington quarter is superior in appearance. The program is only a prelude to obsoleting the $1 and $5 bills.

I could almost guarantee that if you don;t like the picture, you wont like the coin.
Me? I like em and am willing to give them a chance. Every person that has received them from me has been just delighted!
The problem that numismatists have is that they base the design of new coins on what they have enjoyed in the past. Few of us were around when the classi moderns were introduced and I have heard that few people cared for the Buffalo nickel when it came out. But, every body just loves them today.
Granted, this series will have some dogs and it may go the way of the IKE dollar in the popularity department but the US Mint seems intent on pushing these things through so we might as well get used to them!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
For a coin that's supose to be golden in color, I got a couple of rolls that sure are silver colored. I'm thinking of maybe going back to that same bank and getting some more rolls of these. I thought the coins where suppose to be a silver colored coin.
I doubt I'll use the coin. I'm not going to the bank and getting other collector's culls. And I'm not paying $39 for 25 from the mint that I can't even see cause they're rolled.
I never really worried about whether or not I was satified with modern circulating (sic) coinage.
