Yes, yes and yes. While many here say no because they might not look that great, I think it will be a fun series to collect and I love gold. image

<< <i>Even if I had the discretionary income to do a whole series in gold right now, I would still pass. I was thinking of buying just the Thomas Jefferson Liberty but if it is going to look like the picture on the mint web site I probably won't. The design just doesn't look the same as the original to me somehow. I would rather save up to buy a nice MS $10 Indian instead.

is it true that there is a request for a max 10,000 mintage per issue...(proof and unc) ?

What if Kennedy's has Marilyn on it?

I would still give the nod to Jackie, and I might consider that coin, but I am still casting about, looking for ways and means......but coming up short.

Now, see? This is proof positive that the Mint and Congress don't know what the hell they are doing..............if they wanted the public to buy gold coins, they WOULD put Marilyn on them. Maybe several different poses...............

Unfortunately, a program such as that would have the potential to deteriorate quickly...........

  • gold is always gold and if you love collecting this will be a nice series of many years to come. It will be nice to have a complete set and having gone through it. If you hate it that much in the end its still gold. They look beautiful coins and since proofs dont do much for me ill stick with the uncs.

Yes, it's gold but the mint will be charging a lot more than melt value.

    NO.

Since the "Canadianization" of the US Mint, my annual purchases will now consist of only one or two proof ASEs.
  • I am not planning on buying any. But I have been TOLD I WILL Buy ALICE PAUL by my wife. My wife is a daughter of an activist femminist, and as a small child marched in Pro-ERA marches. Honestly I figure by Alice Paul people won't be interested anymore, and mintages will probally be tiny.

  • They had designs of the first 4 of these coins in CW last week. If the Mint does not screw them up these may be quite attractive coins (as opposed to the Prez coins).

  • I will buy at least one of each. I think the coins are a good idea, and don't understand all the negativity here about them. I feel it's nice to have many choices of products from the mint. So what if the mint produces hundreds of different products? This IS still America, the land of the free and you are free to decide if/what you want to buy, nobodys forcing it on you, YOU have the choice!!! I will buy because they are gold, and gold has value, and 20 years from now gold may bee $2000 an ounce-----and just as easily it could be $200 an ounce(though my "gut" feeling says it will be closer to the former image) Just my two cents

Ya lost me on this one.... who is ALICE PAUL? I thought I had a decent knowledge of history, but must not be as decent as I thought......image

  • Alice Paul was an american suffragist. She was a member of National American Women's Suffrage Association (NAWSA) until she and a few others got upset by the tatics and lack of will of the organization, that by that point had become as much a part of Washington poltics as the Washington insiders. In 1916 she and her freinds founded the National Women's Party. They picketed the White House, were arrested and illegally sent to Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia. Their they went on a hunger strike, notes they managed to sneak out led to their story being front page news. Shortly after, women were given the right to vote, as a wartime measure. She went on to write orginal E.R.A. Actually she was probally more deserving of being on the dollar than SBA, but hadn't been dead but a year.

As for why she is in the Presidental Spouse Set, lord only knows.

If you just buy the dedicated "Liberty" eagles, that would make for a pretty set. The 2 eagles planned for 2008 are really beautiful, a nice compliment to Jeffersons "Liberty".

There are only four "libs" in this series, 3, 7, 8, and 15. Fifteen is Buch's. That should be a Seated Liberty design.

Yes, at least at first. I think they will look pretty good as a set and for gold it is a nice size. Granted some of the faces are not that attractive but it will still be an interesting series. I am at a point I would rather collect series I can complete.
