  • Based on the Mint's current product schedule, it doesn't seem like 2007 will bring in the speculative fever that 2006 did.

    Presidential dollars? I'll pass.

    Wise ol' Bear.

I don't want any part of the First Ladies series. image

Trouble is I don't think many other collectors want these things either, which will make the mintages microscopic. Speculators can have a ball, but so far as I'm concerned this series. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Peaceman, the hype was for selected items at the end of the year.

There were opportunities for low mintage and the possibility

of high return. Those hypes turned out very well, for those who

took advantage of the opportunities. Here at the beginning of the year,

We have not seen any sure fire bets, at least at this time. I am afraid you

are trying to compare apples and pears. Different, time, different items, different

mintage runs. There was not a single hype in 06 that was not a money maker. This

Forum, is really the cats whiskers.

You feel because the mint is not producing anything low in mintage right now that there are no opportunities....

argue with you, because every person is entitled to

  • image argue... ? not looking to argue... just curious about the whole modern thing... As most collectors know, demand drives prices, not mintage... I colelct Peace $ VAMs, most which have pops under 100 total.... although the "mintage" is low, demand keeps prices low....

I'm looking at the first ladies. I hear what the wise old bear is saying, however I am willing to roll the dice on this one. If nothing else, it will start me in gold bullion. And I think this is a good thing?

I agree. It's a companion series to the Presidential Dollars, and...it's gold bullion.

Presuming the price is at above-melt no greater than their other bullion, I don't see the downside to picking up the spouse medal as the prez coins come out.

The devil is in the details. Always.

Educate yourself even with regards to modern crap.

Sometimes you get lucky, more often knowing what you are doing pays off better.

Listen to what Bear is saying. Don't overindulge in something you haven't studied carefully.

Keep an eye out for what is happening and give consideration to opinions of posters on this board.

Not everyone is correct, nor will they ever be. You can glean enough information from here to make an intelligent decision or at least one you may not live to regret.

    The end.

And I ain't lying this time.

You would be most wise to listen to Bear's advice. I have a feeling that 2007 is going to be a bad year for some people who think of the Mint as King Midas, and buy everything and anything.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Hey man, I ain't here to baby sit nobody.

If you don't have the gut to handle the ups and downs of the market, if your not ready to lose $1000 or make $1000. Don't get in the game.

It's dog eat dog and the last man standing wins.

Bear is wise. My two cents, for what it's worth, is to keep your eye on the upcoming products section of the Mint's website. Some of the winners pop up fairly quickly with little warning. image

  • I want to clarify one thing: be willing to take risks, but only if they are in your favor. You give me a 50/50 chance of either losing $100 or winning $1000, I'll take the offer every time. Give me a 50/50 chance of making or losing $1000, however, and I'll politely decline.
