Lurker,fresh meat

Call me what you want but my name is Randy and yes I have been trolling this board for some time now. This board has this feeling of people with a vast amount of knowledge and experience that can make it somewhat intimitating. Although it is understood that knowledge is king when it comes to understanding coins, so here I am. I am a collector, roll searcher, hoarder from my child hood days all the way back to the 60s. I collect pennies (cents) and have close to 50,000 saved from over the years. Yes I do have other coins and do not care to either upgrade them or even buy the ones that I am missing due to the cost. You see given the choice of spending the money on a 1916d dime or my real passion fishing, that is a no brainer. I live in the SF bay area and have a boat that if you think coins are expensive try a boat for salt water. Boat = but only another thousand. I have a fishing buddy that works at the Sf mint and last weekend he was telling me that they are having a big problem with the dies for the pres coins. So I hope to interject some other things that can help fellow collectors.
Randy

Welcome, I too love to fish and recently convinced my dad to get a boat image. It is true about the expense with maintaining them, but they are well worth the cost!

    Hi Randy,
It's interesting to read that there are preliminary problems at the mint with these new coins. That might give way to some unique errors that could occur. I'm always searching for anomalies.

    Super first post.
    Welcome.

Did you say fishing, here's me with a 90 lb sturgeon on my hook. He was caught on The Columbia River and was released as he was over the size limit by a few inches.

I am a fisherman too but do most of my catching south of the border. As such, I understand the financial aspect as any part that starts with the word "marine" triples the price. Hope you have found your lurking experience as rewarding as I did before I joined up a few weeks ago.

    Welcome!

Fishing and coin collecting have a lot in common - the big one you landed for being at the right place at the right time, the monster that got away, and most fishermen and coin collectors like to brag about their catches!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I was hesitant to tell about my friend at the mint due to some people trying to hit me up for some deals. He has worked there many years and they have rules about buying bulk and turning around a profit. The risk of losing his job is to great. Yes it is sturgeon time around here and between this board, fishing boards, motorcycles ones (have Nortons)and El Camino boards (have 1966) I will not tally up a high number of post to quick. Oh ya did I mention my wife and daughter think I collect to much stuff. I tell them it is because there is a lot of stuff to collect. Have a good one

Just curious. What is the best penny you have found in your 40 years of collecting (out of the 50,000 that you have pulled fron circulation)?
