<< <i>The coins will be oriented in the gasket so that the date and mintmark are clearly visible.**** >>
Since the lettering placement is random, and the coin will be placed so the date and mintmark is veiwable, there could be a premium on coins in high grade that have the edge lettering placed in a way that allows the obverse to be straight in the holder.
The First Day in Gem grade might end up being very scarce. The only way to cherry pick these will be to acquire a ton of these on the 15th, sort through them, and get the good ones packaged up and sent out before the PO closes!!
Otherwise, if you submit mint sealed ones without being able to go through them, I forsee a lot of low MS grades (62/63).
<< <i>How do I get them soon enough to be postmarked the 15th? The mint won't due. Did most banks have them? >>
Most banks should have them or at least access to the through their distributor. I ordered ahead of time, it might be worthwhile for you to check with your local banks.
So the idea is pick them up the morning of the 15th and ship them off by the afternoon. (Not worth it)
<< <i>So the idea is pick them up the morning of the 15th and ship them off by the afternoon. (Not worth it) >>
Exactly. That's pretty much what I said in another Prez $1 thread. That time line is rediculous. The Mint doesn't start selling them until that date, and most banks won't hand them out until that date, and one has to get their submissions in THAT DAY? What a joke. PCGS would make more money on this designation if they let people have a few days to get their coins gathered up.
Is the labeling an "either or" type of thing, i.e., colorful label or First day of Issue, or will there be the option of having First Day of Issue on the new coloful label?
Best of luck - I hope the PCGS three-pronged gasket is clear. I've yet in my life to see as ugly a holder as the NGC pronger - apparently many in the slabbing biz failed basic aesthetics appreciation.
I'm in small town Michigan. We've two banks and a credit union here. There is a good chance if I ask for gold presidential dollars the tellers wont have a clue what I'm talking about. Not only that but I work Thursday. I'm shut out on this one.

Let's see if I have this Presidential Dollar Coin opportunity correct.
1.) A HOLDER.
A.) A PCGS holder - collectible in its own right. B.) A new type of PCGS holder with the Tri-View™ gasket showing the side of the coin - additional collectibility. C.) A first of this new style of holder, possibly replaced by a better design - additional collectibility, as "the original" Tri-View™ holder.
2.) AN INSERT.
A.) A PCGS insert - collectible in its own right. B.) A new optional "First Day of Issue" insert - additional collectibility, as we have seen with, for example, the First Strike™ Gold Buffalos. C.) Also available with the custom-designed colorful "Custom Inserts" - additionally collectible subsets of the Presidential Coin Series.
3.) A COIN.
A.) A first in the Presidential Coin Series, featuring George Washington - proven collectibility. B.) A U.S. Mint product in "mint condition" with a minimum MS66 grade - a very collectible grade. C.) An intrinsic, or "face" value of $1.00, and possible numismatic interest potentially creating added value.
I'd say that this is a slam-dunk, 'cept for that "numismatic interest" thing.

I believe intrinsic means the actual value of the metal in the coin. A coin would have 3 values, intrinsic, face & numismatic.
I know Ron is going to post a photo of PCGS's holder...but I thought I would share a photo of what NGC is doing across the street. Looks like a 4 prong approach...
Found them at my bank but they won't release them until tommorow. Definitely will do the bulk submission on these. Thanks for the information. First in the series first day of issue. Only time will tell. I wonder if they minted all these already. For around a thousand dollars willing to give it a shot.

Wow I would almost hope not to get 69's or 70's ouch.
As a newb with submissions and given that it took me 2 weeks to figure out my first one, tell me the form doesn't have to be completely filled out, is this right? There would be no way to know the final tally, so am I correct that 100 coins and a credit card number should be good enough?
Just making sure. They could put "First Day" on the side of the holder, or even worse, the back of the holder. ps. I need to know very soon. The Hawker is staffed and ready to go.
Just fill out your instructions on your form stating exactly what you want and describing the coins. Specify what labels you want: First Day Issue" etc. Washington Presidential Dollars. Its too early for a PCGS coin number I believe on these. Be sure to write Bulk on the outside of package so it gets delivered to PCGS Bulk Department. Tell them to charge your credit card for all fees. There is really no way to figure out a total if you want all your coins graded. each grade level is charged a different fee. I also put my submission number on the roll of coins.

TPG's subconsciously grading higher resulting in higher revenues. I don't have a problem with selling a service for a fee that the market is willing to pay. But why tiered pricing based on grade? Is this something new? I did buy and send in quite Eagle Ann. sets and all the pricing was the same regardless of grade assigned. Why would the Presidential Dollars be any different?
Like I stated above, maybe the problem is just me.

Agreed, for normal subissions there is no tier, if you pay $14 then that covers any grade.
My take is the tier is only for bulk grading. As the grades increase it takes more time to verify and hence a larger fee. This allows the price break in bulk submission.
<< <i>I'm just getting back in to coin collecting after many years(mid70s) and while I get the idea of grading and believe it is a necessity, but for the life of me I can't get the first day/strike/release labels....it just seems so HSN and cheesy with no real value added to the coin.... maybe it's just me. Of course I realize it's profitable for the slabbers, but does it help anyone else? >>
I agree that it is very cheesy, however, PCGS is a company out to make money, just like any company that cares about it's future should, and it isn't really unethical to do it, so if people want to play the First Strike / First Day game, then let them.

Those of you able to grab them now and sort through hundreds if not thousands have a huge advantage.
