  • That's what I think. And thieves always send the merchandise below market--they don't want hot potatoes in their trailer. They want them in ours!

SOmeone should email one of the buyers and ask them what they are thinking. Especially the guy that bot 100.

They are probably thinking, "When is Santa Claus going to come down the chimney and deliver the coins?" image

I hope you all used credit cards. What bothered me about this auction was he's selling 2007 eagles and if he purchase them he paid at least $15 dollars a coin so he knew the value. If these had been lets say 2002's then he may not have known the market value if he hadn't kept up with silver prices. One thing for sure he's about 10 grand richer and if it's a scam you will be hearing about him being arrested on the news because Ebay/PayPal will go after him for that kind of money. Good Luck to all.......

Now the seller sits back waiting for the $10,000 payday to come in.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

<< <i>The gambling debt hypothesis was a good one. I've dealt with degenerate gamblers before--they'd sell their mother for a $2 bill if they thought it would "get them out of a jam". On the other side of that token, gamblers are familiar with pawn shops and know the spot price of silver, and would easily find 100 ways better to liquidate silver eagles than eBay @ $9 a pop. The cologne, the "quick millions sports betting guide", the hotrod car parts--it just screams teenager. 683 silver eagles screams father of teenager. This auction screams trouble for several parties! >>

I agree, that sounds very plausible.

    Ok

    I fell for it

    1 coin for $10 shipped

I will give more than this to the slot machine in less than a minute

no real big loss if I don't get my coin

if I do get my coin who will be laughing then, Heck I might just use it for a "giveaway"

    Gamble yes

Google Jim Segars in Camden, SC and see what comes up. Don't know if that is the same person though. He is a real estate guy there. Who knows?

  • so is it $9 for a roll or a single coin?
  • I'm getting a "Transaction Blocked" message when trying to buy

Clearly this cannot be legit. Explanations:

    1) Recent Coin Thefts
    2) Mental Illness (In which case it is not a legal contract)
    3) Kid with parents coins
    4) Spouse who caught other cheating!

Anyone who buys these severely underpriced items from a low volume seller with 94% feedback severely needs to have their head examined.
If there isn't a Santa Claus in Numismatics, it's a sure bet there isn't a Santa Claus selling on Ebay either.

    Caviat Emptor, big time!

That's exactly the message I got the time I was dumb enough to try and buy ~$350 DVD set for $99. Thank goodness I got all my money back by cancelling my PayPal transaction; in that case, the seller's account had been hijacked. If it was me, I'd try my best to cancel the transaction if I'd bought one of those eagles. If not, pray you bought it with a credit card.
  • This guy is no longer registered on ebay, I almost bought a bunch, but couldn't get my head around why anyone would sell them like that, plus he was purchasing car parts like crazy....

    Yep. ID change.

I see he is still selling SE's.

Lets see, he's now has a roll for $300 plus $10 shipping or singles for $14 + .50cent shipping. Man I wouldn't bid on anything this guy offers.

  • << <i>Anyone know anyone who bought from this guy? >>

I just got an email from my brother. I had sent him the link and told him not to buy but he couldn't stand it.

He said, someone stole his ID and eBay and paypal had sent emails to everyone involved. He said he checked his paypal account and the refund is pending. He said that usually takes 5-7 days.

I see that same guy has ingots and silver eagles now.

What to do....hmmmmm...$14 per eagle is not bad at all. image

Notice there's no PayPal or CC to save you this time. Go ahead if you haven't learned, stole his ID and then starts selling them again....Right!image

I thought about notifying eBay that he is selling these things again. Don't know if it is legit or not but I would bet it isn't.
  • This thing stinks to me, I wouldn't bid on it. image

Yes his married sister maybe. But he just so happens to have the same coins now for sale even though he wasn't part of the first auction.....Right!

Yes after pondering over it for about 20 minutes like a fool I bid on 5. Ebay sent me a email stating his account was taken over or used by a 3rd party and is closed until further investigation. I opened up a paypal dispute for the 46.00. I told myself if it is to good to be true then.....But no I had to give it a shot. I see so many others getting good deals I thought why not. Well I learned the Why's but now know the NOT's

  • Well I hope everyone gets their coins or money back, I hate when good people with hard earned money get scammed by some low life.

    Cheers!! image

Most likely, anyone who bought from him has just lost their money unless they used a credit card. If you used paypal...you won't get it back unless you reported it as an unauthorized transaction. If you just report it as a scammer...you won't get your money back from paypal because they will just say they couldn't recover it.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained

I requested a refund via paypal yesterday. Today they refunded my money. Not bad in less than 24 hours.

You can get good deals. A good deal on a silver eagle is $14, instead of the $16 you see most people paying. $9 is not a good deal, because it's a scam for someone. Either the seller is being scammed (losing money) or you are (because he's not really selling).

The email exchanges I had with this guy suggest that the sister story is bogus and he knew what he was doing. His ebay account wasn't hijacked either because I was contacting him through the ebay message system. Oh well.
