here's a query about end roll toners.

I see coins that are graded and slabbed ....and are end roll toners.
if they are in the original paper rolls that are issued with the coins...no doubt they are naturally toned....

if at some time they've been removed from their original paper rollers, and re-rolled in a "home made make shift roll paper"
news paper...typing paper...brown paper...etc.

(they were re-rolled very close to the original time of issue....a day or so....a week or so...)
they were re-rolled for no other purpose than just to keep them from being loose.

now its 75 years later....and the end coins have toned.

they are AT'd...........Right?

how does a grader know which is which?...................................................(i'm bettin' he don't)

so how do i convince anyone that these are NT?...there was NO intent

...(p.s. these are not 75 years old)

Wouldn't it also be NT if someone rerolls coins the same way described above but did it with the intention of creating end roll toners by also waiting 75 years? Does intent really make a difference here?

Lots of people also put coins in albums to intentionally get album toning. Is this album toning now considered AT because of the intent?

What if coins were in a building and the building burned down resulting in coins toned by heat? Would these coins be AT or NT?

It's not NT or AT any more, it's Market Acceptable or not.

my point exactly....toning is toning.

its gonna happen one way or another.

with all the coins being bb'd due to "questionable color or toning" i can't for even a second believe that there are that many people coloring their coins to be graded.

i've had a few lincolns and a few indians that looked as if they came out of a fresh roll five minutes ago get bb'd for "questionable color"

they had cartwheel luster...brilliance and not a mark on em....i guess they bb them because they couldn't believe that a coin could survive 80 to 100 years without toning just a little.

i say hire more graders ....and make them spend a full minute looking at each coin ...instead of 3 seconds (for 35 dollars)

betcha fewer mistakes would be made.

I agree, "depends what it looks like" any toned coin must stand on it's own merits and not "look fake"

however, any "mistakes" by TPGs on borderline appearing cases tend to be on the conservative side. If they BB it, they might get another submission fee (or three

)
