Grade opinions on my 1881 CC Morgan

looking for grade opinions on my 1881 CC morgan i picked up a few weeks ago. one set of pictures show the hits too severe and the other shows the hits not severely at all. in reality, it is somewhere inbetween. my first attempt at photography of coins. any tips would be appreciated. thanks!

I am new to the VAM thing, but i believe it is a VAM 2, which has the diagnostics of a die gouge above the feathers of the arrows on the reverse. the book says its a rarity 4. is there any premium on the coin? thanks in advance for all the info.

ms64 PCGS would cut a little slack for bagginess. possible 65 on a good day.

I agree, but I can definately see it in a 65 holder.

bottom one 62
That is why it is so hard to grade from photos.

I agree with fcloud and DennisH --- first photo 64, second photo 62, average 63.

I agree with the top photo being a 64 (mostly because of strike and luster) and the bottom being a 62 (down from the 64 grade in the top photo due to the number of hits and the location of those hits - I. E. the prime focal area and the fact that they are now more obvious). Since it was described as being in the middle of the two photo's when viewed in the hand, I'd say MS63 would be a good grade for this '81 cc. I've seen a lot worse!

I think the obverse is a 63 and the reverse is 65 so I'll go with a MS64

Add me to the camp who will say "63" with the assumption that the actual coin is better than the 62ish bottom picture and worse than the 64ish top picture.

If the top photo were accurate, I'd say low end 64..... by OP's comments, it must be a 63.

Love that reverse though.

i would go w/63 on top only because of reeding ding on cheek otherwise 64. other morgan 62. thank you for sharing your pics..very nice coins.

MS-63, as they typically grade the 1881-CC Morgans pretty conservatively (tightly).

Robec, if all those lines are on the holder and not the coin, I'd give it a MS64.

The lines are on the holder. The reason I posted my 81cc on this thread is because I'm one of the ones on crack that said I could see the top coin in this thread in a 65 holder. Maybe undeserving, but I wouldn't be surprised non the less. The coin I posted is a PCGS (not NGC) MS65 PL.
