The most difficult type for the Dansco 7070...

must be the classic head large cent. A couple years before embarking on this type set project, I sold a nice, problem-free VG coin from my boyhood collection. Big mistake! I have not found a replacement coin for under $1000. At any given time, on ebay, all of the listed coins have problems of one sort or another. If you own a nice problem-free classic head large cent, hold on to it!

I have a VG at present in my type set that I bought many years ago.It has a very nice smooth fairly light brown surface. I would really like to have a fine graded one but have not found one in that grade with the same surfaces of the one I have.But I'll take the advice and keep what I got even if I find a nice fine.

I ended up upgrading from a VG to a VF to a VF-30 over time for the Classic Head Large Cent. Very tough to find quality examples that don't cost more than a used car. Planchet quality is expensive for the series!

Yes, the Classic Head is a really tough one. I also had problems finding a Trade Dollar that I liked within my budget.

My 7070 has 3 holes... a Classic Head Large cent and 2 seated dollars.
It is very hard to find nice examples of these coins.

Lee, I'm surprised you sold your nice 1820 Coronet large cent. Did/do you have a Classic cent?

I agree it's by far the toughest type in the album to buy in any grade even approaching the other coins. Mine's got VF+ details but is porous.

That was the only AU in my 7070.... That I regrettably SOLD prior to regaining my senses.
The one I have now....STAYS!

My 7070 also included TDN's 1871 seated dollar which is only the FINEST KNOWN 1871.

LeeG, that was a Coronet cent you posted.

I have a fairly nice 1812 Classic Head cent that was an ANACS F12 crackout. The previous owner used it in a Dansco 7070 type set. I still have the ANACS label, too.

PM me if you are interested in it.

Unfortunately it is in my antique mall booth right now (where it is unlikely to sell because it is far above the sort of stuff I normally sell there).
And I don't presently have pictures of it. But I suppose that could be remedied.

For me personally, I found the Reeded Edge Bust half and the two Seated dollars to be the toughest when I did the 7070 the first two times, but I admit I wasn't very selective with my Classic Head cents back then.

When I evolved from the Dansco 7070 into slabbed nongold 19th/20th century type set, I found the Draped Bust half dime to be the toughest.

I don't have the Classic Head Cent yet due to the facts others have already stated.
