I haven't been searching banks in a while but decided to last week, just to see if it was still worth it. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Not worth much, but lots of fun!

I went through 5 rolls of halves to find that 40% one, so that wasn't such a great find. 10 rolls of dimes got me the merc, but no silver roosevelts? That is weird. The mercury looks uncirculated. I found all the buffalos in ONE ROLL--someone had just cashed it in at the bank and it even had the lady's name and address on it. The Ikes were sitting in the clerk's change drawer. I've never been so lucky either. OMG--I notice the silver quarter (1957) I forgot to put in the pic. I got that in change at Subway. Didn't notice it till I emptied my pockets and noticed that familiar silver clank when the change fell.

A few months ago a friend of mine went through $400 in halves we got at the casino. Found only 3 40% halves, and decided it wasn't worth it.

Looking at those coins makes one wonder about all of those millions of Buffalo nickels. They weren't hoarded for their metallic value. Just how many are out there in the hobby of the original mintages? Sure the government reclaimed and replaced some of them. Some are still in coffee cans and at the bottoms of wells and other public water features. It's hard to believe that the overwhelming majority of well over 100 million nickels could have been absorbed by the hobby in such a short time.

Double check that 72 IKE to see if its a Type 2! You just never know.

I can't tell. But I flipped them both over and took another pic. The left is the 1971, and the coin on the right is the 1972.

The 72 is a Type 3. Worth a buck. Still, its always nice to come across these at the bank.

One dealer I always visit to go through his IKE's got tired of them and turned em in at the bank for face value! About $700 worth!

If he didn't have 8 inches in heighth and 100lbs in weight over me I would have strangled him!

Actually, I just asked him to let me know the next time before he did this! He has absolutely no appreciation for IKE's. At all.

To tell you the truth, I didn't realize these had any premium over face until just recently. As a kid, these were in circulation, and when my family would to go Vegas in the 80's these things were used in the dollar slots at casinos. I still thought they were neat and would collect them, but was always told they weren't worth anything. I'm pretty surprised that rolls are selling for double their face value!
