What four commermoratives did you choose for your type set?

With four slots available on the 7070 this is my choice:

Columbian
Gettysburg
Illinois
Oregon Trail

Dont have em yet, but I will do Texas and Oregan as my oldies, and a frankiln or bothe buffalos for my new ones.

I have all the franklins, and the buffalos I may do the uncs in both, but def. the Texas and the Oregan.

None of the above as IMO commemeratives don't belong in a type set. If on the other hand, you feel that they do then all of them should be necessary not just 4.

California Jubilee
Bay Bridge
Monroe Doctrine

to show my radical California nativist proclivity.

The San Diego Cal Pac would have been a better choice than the Monroe Doctrine (at least from the design standpoint), but I already sold my spare and didn't want to crack out the one I have.

I'm looking to replace my low AU Columbian with a nice toner. The hard choice will be my Oregon that I want. It looks great blast white and toned

I agree. Dansco 7070 aside, commems are not types.

Since the SQ program, I no longer even consider circulating commems to be "types". Bicentennials, SQs, WWJ nickels, Prexybucks, and Lincoln Bicents are in a separate category.

Iowa - family from there and I like the reverse, which is facing out. I doubt many, if any, have this one in their set.

Texas - I love the design. Nice relief.

San Diego - I love the design.

Oregon - I love the design.

Pet peeve of mine: It's Carver-Washington, not the other way 'round. The Red Book had it wrong for years, it's been corrected, but the numismatic community is very slow to catch up.

I'm an animal lover, and the US commems depict animals better than any coins from any country.
(This doesn't include the birds which are staples on all US coinage.)

1) Bay Bridge
2) Vermont
3) Wisconsin
4) Albany

My type set is dedicated to original VF-AU coinage that shows its age. Therefore, many of the commem issues are very tought to non-existant using this criteria. At this time there are only three classic commems in my set-

Columbian
Maine
Oregon

I would dearly love to obtain an original, circulated Connecticut. So, if anyone out there has one, please offer it to me!

I dont have the b@lls so I went the cheap rout. Anyway, it costs too much to fill the 7070 so I thought I would save money by placing cheap yet neat commems.

Columbian, Texas, Carver - Washington, and George Washington. An attempt to include one from each 'era' of commems. My problem is that I like most of the commems so I have thought several time about swapping them out for an Oregon, San Diego, Texas, and York 'cause I think those all have great designs!

I'm waiting for someone to say:

Hawaiian, Spanish Trail, Pan-Pac, and Hudson*

That'd take some ginormous b@lls to stick in a 7070.

*A sage over on RCC once wrote that the acquisition of the Hudson is what separates "real" commem collectors from wannabes and speculators. Anybody can pick up a Columbian or a Oregon and have a commem. And the big money is always chasing Hawaiians, Pan-Pacs, and cabeza de vacas. But the Hudson -- there's a special coin. Rare, obscure, unpopular, expensive -- you gotta really want it to get it. One you get one, you've reached a certain plateau in commem collecting; where the view starts to look really interesting.

First I had the econo-ship theme: reverses of Columbian, Pilgrim, H-W and LI (ship facing opposite the others bugged me), so I switched to another econo theme in VF-XF, toned: Columbian (discovery), Monroe (politico), Sesqui (party!), rev of Carver-Wash (map USA). I do like the Oregon design in choice VF w/ grey toning.

I have three of four spots filled, one with a Columbian, but it will be replaced.

I am with RYK and his western bias. I have a California Jubilee and a Bay Bridge. I am looking for an Oregon and a San Diego.

For the modern commem, being a lawyer I had to go with the Constitution.

So far I have:

1935 Connecticut. I like both sides and I love the tree.

Thinking about:

1937 Antietam: Another pleasing tree scene (belying the subject matter)
1922 Grant: Yet another arcadian scene, though I'm not crazy about the obverse
Oregon Trail: I like both sides, including the tension, and I like the Weinmanian rising-sun motif

Do I need a fourth coin with a tree, or do I go with CT/Antietam and this pairing:

San Francisco
California

(Everybody loves bears, right?)

I went for a bit of an "white people in America" theme: "discovery", colonization, expansion westward, and finally the city where my family settled

Columbian, Illinois (Lincoln), Stone Mountain and San Diego. The Lincoln and Stone Mountain are part of my Civil War run with my PCGS Gettysburg, Antietam and Grant (too expensive to crack out--although I might change my mind later).
