I didn't read the whole thread, so if I'm repeating someone else, the so be it.
I believe their supplies should be used for their service since that's what it was intended for. I thought it was nice of them to provide labels, tape, and boxes to make the process easier, but in recent years they have cut out the tape altogether and are getting very chincy with the boxes and labels because too many people consider them a source for free office supplies.
Then the same people complain when the postal rates increase.

I have done the same thing; just wrap the box with plain brown paper, then they can't see the water marks!
It's funny, but sad, watching those who break "the rules" and then try to justify them...when that doesn't work, they scurry to point the finger at others. Simple to use the materials for the services they are intended for. If a dollar or two means that much to you, go get on welfare and sell your coins to survive. Otherwise, put the additional cost on the shipping in your auction.

After dealing with post offices for years to get coins mailed, I've learned that there are good post offices and bad post offices. Some post offices have nothing but total jerks behind the counter who do nothing but cause hastles. I avoid those post offices as much as possible.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Very, very true. The one in my hometown has an average employee IQ comparable to that of a ripe watermelon. Now the one I go to here in Toledo is pretty good. Except for some reason the mail carriers are "duhhheeeeee". Receiving is an issue but sending I've never had a problem. Pretty nice workers. One even complained about how bad USPS is with customers.
I've lived at the same address for over 1.5 years and they didn't deliver two days worth of mail. One letter, because it wasn't delivered, nearly had me kicked out of college. Look at the envelope and it said "no resident lives at this address" or something like that. WTF? You just delivered two huge boxes to me the day before and I even answered the door! Morons.

Probably was a substiture carrier misdelivering your mail. It happened to me after I left academia and got an offer for a job by what ended up being my employer for 15 years. A different carrier delivered it to someone two doors down (whose last name was close to my first and last names together). The gal there kept my mail for 2 months before writing, "This Man Does Not Live Here," on the envelopes and giving them to the mailman. But I also have more recent stories of carriers and their reliability.
