hardest series to grade from photos?

For me it is Peace dollars...just can't get a feel for luster without having them in hand. To many out there with spotty luster thats easy to hide in a photo....I have sent back two now after seeing them in hand.

Although I am a novice.

Indian $2.5 and $5s. They're hard to grade in hand, too!

I agree with 2.5 and 5 indians but I think peace dollars are extremely tough as well. 3 cent silvers could be tossed into that mix as well.

Brilliant proofs. If you have a hard time getting a decent phot, you surely are going to have a hard time trying to grade from them.

Agree. Hairlines are a major factor in grading proofs and they don't show up very well in pics.

Old, toned silver Proof coins are really tough to grade by photos. The pieces I want have original toning with a lot of flash under the color. Sadly most pictures don't pick that up. The coins mostly look dull whether they are or not.

So far as a series goes, I think Standing Liberty quarters are tough to grade. I'm real fussy when it comes to Ms. Liberty's knee. If she has a rub there, I'm out. Usually it takes a peak with a 10X to check the knee. Most pictures can't compare to a 10X view.

Deep cameo proof silver coins, Indian quarter eagles and half eagles, and 3c silvers are the toughest for me.
