Well, I thought I won this buff on teletrade tonight...

I got into a bidding war with someone in the last couple of minutes. Lucky for me, I think I got the last bid in before the time expired. .....WRONG. image

    I hope you won.

I hope I won this PCGS 1912s au55 Barber dime.

This is my first attempt at a teletrade auction.

I overbid for the piece, but I have a $50 coupon, so if I win it's all good.

    Here's hoping.

I am not sure what happened it's telling me I did not win.

My bid was $23 higher than the realized price. I was logged in, and out my max bid in 5 minutes before the end of the auction.

It never gave me a confirmed bid though.

    Any ideas?

    Usually an hour or two.

I hate to tell you this, but Teletrade doesnt allow max bids during the live portion of the auction. You just have to click on the "bid now" button until you are the top bidder. And even before the auction goes live, I think there are standard bid levels that you have to bid on exactly. Someone that uses teletrade more than me can confirm or refute this. Your bid probably didnt registar b/c it was an invalid amount / max bid.

I win about two coins a year on teletrade. Their return policy sucks so I usually end up not bidding on their stuff.

This one was purty but I am not sure it sold. I wasn't in the bidding for it, though I considered it for the lower reverse planchet problem. Not sure that it is a strike through since the lower letters are affected. Looks more like a preminting defect.

That's not good. It said I didnt win any lots in that auction. Is that the default or did I lose? Oh well, more money for the Houston show image.

If it says you didn't win any, you didn't win any. It will just say the auction number is invalid until the results post. Better luck next time!

The few occasions I've won a coin on TT, I called the number listed for this, enter bidder number and it told me 15 minutes after auctions end.
Don't know if tonight was a special auction or not.

I just don't get it. Their info reads as follows:

If an auction is in progress, you have the option of interactively bidding by checking the "Next Bid" boxes. You may also place maximum bids right up until the end of the auction at 10:00 PM ET.
When you have made all of your bids, click on "Submit Bids".
A confirmation screen will appear, asking you to verify your bidding activity on the selected lots. Click "Confirm Bids" to have your bids recorded

    Back to ebay I guess.

What's so confusing? You can do max bids from the time the auction is posted until the end of the auction, except in the 1 hour prior to the interactive bidding. The next bid option is just a fast way during the interactve auction to go one increment and avoid the batching. You confirm there just like on eBay. What is not like eBay is bid execution and posting isn't immediate. The reserves also creep in along with bidding until a few hours before the end of the auction.

I typed in my bid and hit submit, then confirm, then nothing happened.

    I tried again, nothing happened.

I guess I should have phoned it in, but I am so locked into bidding at the last second, that by the time I knew there was a problem the auction had ended.

O well, I guess they lost money, the seller lost money, and I lost the coin I wanted.

The under bidder was the only winner.

Holeinone1972 - You can submit max bids during the live auction. I think the problem lies in that you bid in an amount other than the increments that TT allows. Max bids on TT (unlike Heritage) must be in the bidding increments set up by TT ($110, $120, $130, etc). I'm pretty sure that a bid ending in a $3 (say $133 for example) would not be accepted by TT.

Well my bid was $133, if that is why I did not get the coin, they are morons.

But If that is it, at least I will not make the same mistake again.

I have a complaint in with Teletrade, while I am sure it will not get me the coin, I hope to at least get a definitive answer.

    Big bummer.

Would have looked good in my Dansco.

The server often gets slow at the end of Teletrade auctions. Executions of bids are based on process time, not receipt time too. There is no reason to snipe Teletrade sales in the closing seconds. You get the equivalent result a minte or even two before the end of the auction. Telephoning in the bids is the same too and always has been.

Teletrade also RUNS a lot of thier AUCTIONS with undisclosed RESERVES ... Are you sure the coin sold ?? The underbidder may not have won the coin either, even though your bid did not get acceoted, and the coin may still available. CALL THEM if you want it badly enough

"They" are morons? YOU either failed to read the Terms and Conditions (including rules for bidding increments), or YOU read and did not comprehend.

Now who is the moron here?

Thanks bushmaster8 thanks for the support! I hope an Airplane lands on your house !image

So I made the mistake of overbidding. Confirmation from Telesuck confirms that I bid too much. LOL

Must be in $10 increments for that size auction.

O well, I guess I will spend my cash somewhere else.

    Lesson learned.

TT is not all that bad, you just have to familiarize yourself with how it works, and the first step is READ!

    David,
Your only 'bidding war' would have been Teletrade's computer system as I placed a max bid of $330.00 about two hours before the auction ended.

(I needed that coin as it is an exact match to a PCGS 1913 type one I own... so I was going to win almost at any cost.)

I was pleased actually to see it close at under $200.00.
I believe the color will appear more startling and bold in hand.

    Pat,

Good for you. You can enjoy the coin and I'll enjoy the money... until I find the next coin. There are always coins out there to buy. I rarely have a problem finding something I want image.
