Can this 09-s Indian be saved.

I went through a ton of indians about 4 months ago and tossed this one to the side. Today I was tidying up and saw it. What can I do to help it. imageimage

That old veteran is beyond hope. There is only a marginal value attached to a coin that badly damaged, probably best realized on eBay as a hole-filler...It'll go $40 - $50 on a good day.

Edited to add: You could soak it in Virgin Olive oil for a month or so and that may help it a tad, but it's obvious the corrosion has eaten away much of the metal, making it impossible for the coin to ever be presentable. If the coin were lighly whizzed to smooth out some of the roughness and then slowly stained dark over a long time, it could appear more uniform in color, but will still be a junk coin. I'd dump it as is and apply the money to a better coin.
    Oh boy...this could be a bad thing.........image

I suggest acetone to remove the gunk. Then Blue Ribbon oil gently with a Q-tip to restore some semblence of the original copper color. I got this advice from an old-time Large Cent collector. I use it on my old large cents and it's wonderful.
Spare your best friend's life!! Adopt an adult dog at your local "kill" animal shelter. You will be changed.

I would try it. A 1909-S is a key date.

That was my second disappointment with this group. The first was finding out this wasn't the 1888/7

I assume you followed Shylock's thread on his coin and the debate surrounding the 1888/7. Interesting the "cud" (for lack of a better discription) under the date has the same rounded bottom with the same arc of curvature as Paul's - just not as long or pronounced as his. Hmmmm...early die state something or other???
