Good deal...? Opinions on a WL half please

I picked this up for $9 and am trying to figure out if it was a great deal, or just okay. The issue is in figuring out if it goes BU or AU. Do you see wear? What grade would you assign?

Wish I could help. Even after years of casually collecting MS65-66 Walkers, I can't tell the difference (at least in images) between killer-AU and real-MS. This one looks low-MS to me, which would make it a wonderful buy. But even if it's just AU58, current Grey Sheet price for AU is $9.50 Ask, so you did just fine.
    When in doubt, don't.

Looks very nice..... I would say (based on looking at some I have) ... low MS60 or so.... not an expert on these... just like them.. Cheers, RickO

looks Unc to me, just soft struck or "roll rub" in the center of both Obv. and Rev. Great lustre it appears to have.

There's a nice hike between AU and CH/UNC. Which that coin would definitly fall into one of those two grades. I don't think it would go 60-62. 58 or 63 IMO.

I have it marked as an MS63... as it has a number of little hits, and I've never seen any signs of wear. Felt like a good buy, certainly, but what a bear these can be to grade! Not a big value coin, but it would be nice to have a solid idea of whether it is an AU55/58 or MS 62/63.
I guess I'll stick with the 63 and at least feel like I am not totally off.

Could be... hard to grade these coins.... will you submit to TPG?... Would be interesting to see the results. Cheers, RickO

That's a nice coin for the price. The luster is well defined. Are those horizontal hits on the skirt from wear making her AU?
The reverse of the coin looks good. The eagle is well defined. It's hard to tell from the image.

Not going to submit, the coin is not valuable enough to warrant it... just trying to validate the grade a bit so I catalog it reasonably.

I've been looking at a lot of these lately. Your coin is either 58 or a low end MS63 I would say. I can't say for sure from the photo Where have you heard that before? Eh?

Looks like you got a good deal to me either way.

    Best wishes,

Hi Tonedbuff.....I am thinking AU-58. It is a nice coin, but one tell tale sign is what looks like wear at the junction of the left wing and bottom of the eagles neck. Also on the obverse, just above that hit on the left knee up to the breast may show wear.

That said, this particular year and mint usually comes well struck especially noticable on Liberty's hand holding the branches. This is what I see in the photo. You have the coin in hand, rotate it and see if there are any breaks in the luster in the above mentioned areas.

Either way, for 9 bucks, you have a nice coin............Rick
