What a sweet coin. 28-P Peace.

This one goes in the permament box. I graded it $450 today. It is high au, but might holder better. That's a moot point, as it isn't for resale. image

Thanks guys. I think the reason I like this one so much is that it is not dipped. It seems as though everyone who submits an AU coin believes a quick dip will put it in an MS holder. This one's lightly toned, and fairly dirty. Perfect for the grade, IMO.

    Nice coin, Don.

Too bad that you had to remind me of one of my major coin screw-ups. image

Back in the early eighties, when I was fairly new at collecting coins, I had a nice BU '28 (this was before PCGS).

Not being a big silver dollar guy, I took a bunch that I had to a show to sell in order to buy other coins. The first dealer I sat down with conned me out of the '28... it was the only one he wanted. image

The coin was probably a nice MS64+ by today's standards. image

Nice coin! I agree -- I love that it's not all dipped out to restore "booming luster." Technically I think it's a solid 55 with a shot at 58, but I like it a LOT more than a lot of dipped out or fugly toned MS coins. If I were building a set of choice AU Peace Dollars, this is THE look I would want.

    Very nice. image

I haven't owned one of those for a long time. Might need to pick up another to put away.

Nice one. Good you paid 10% over the continuum of circulated 1928 ones that don't measure up as nicely. With that date, you really need to buy in high AU to MS63 or higher to get coin value for your money.

Look for any new features too. There has to be at least one more reverse that is not documented.

I like Seated $s, and one day, hope to own a Bust $. I don't own any Peace Dollars because I've rarely seen one that I've considered to be attractive. The ones I've seen are typically dipped out and / or have milk spots.

Your coin is a nice exception to that. It looks original, and it's relatively even toning gives it personality. If I saw more of them that looked like your coin, I'd pick one up for my type set.

Oh, and why don't the Peace dollars rainbow tone in numbers like Morgans?

I know this was brought up a few months ago, didn't read.
