That seller should be notified that coin was artificially toned while inside the holder and should not be offered for sale without a disclosure that it's an altered coin IMO.
He's selling that known blatant AT'd POS and yet has the gall to say this:
<< <i>This Jefferson is NOT from the infamous "Marty Hoard" that entered the market a few years ago. Those all contained BLUE and Lavender and Purple color that is questionable, at best. >>

it's kind of obvious that this seller is involved in the AT coin market and doesn't care. you guys continually rail against stuff like what he's doing, isn't it about time you climb over to my side of the fence and stop acknowledging him. unless, of course, it really doesn't matter to you........................
Hey but he does also have "The Finest Flawless PCGS PR68 CAMEO 1964 Accented Hair" for sale as well. I thought Russ was the Kennedy guy?
Seriously though. I don't know the history of this particular coin but if the accusations are true... To knowingly sell an AT coin without disclosing it is just plain wrong.

The seemingly accepted way around this is to say it's "market acceptable". This way these AT sellers think they're getting away with fraud.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Maybe people don't give a chit if it's AT or NT? Personally, it WOULD matter to me but seemingly there are a lot of collectors that just want a colorful coin.
I'm assuming that the suggestion here is that the seller knows that the coin is AT and as such should provide full disclosure. Perhaps the proper thing for the seller/owner of this coin to do would be to send it back to PCGS and have it unholdered. Get it off the market to show that there will be no tolerence of AT'd coins in PCGS holders. I'd hate to think that there are others out there!
Also it seems to me that this particular method of ATing a coin is a very dastardly and devious deception as people tend to put faith in coins that are already in a holder as being legit.

I finally clicked the link to see what you all were talking about and dang! That's Pat Braddick of Peacock Coins (forum ID "Braddick") selling the coin. What a trip, maybe he'll reply in the thread to talk about it?
How much do you think it will sell for? If it's not too insanely high maybe I can win the coin. Then crack it out, burn the slab and dip the coin. After dipping I'll spend the damn thing at a 7-11.
"Also it seems to me that this particular method of ATing a coin is a very dastardly and devious deception as people tend to put faith in coins that are already in a holder as being legit."
Agreed. Selling coins already in sealed PCGS holders that have been deviously doctored is really bad. PCGS should take a keen interest in people doing this and selling coins like this in their holders.
it's obvious to me nowdays that a lot of people are doing business like this. painting a finish on the coin. probably been going on since way before i started collecting, but it's not much different than a colorized silver eagle or gold plated state quarters.
sometimes these artists produce good eye appeal, but i wouldn't pay a premium for it, since with a little practice i could take a coin and do the same thing with a bottle of stuff being sold on ebay.

That's the same coin I posted back in November. The seller (at the time, a different fellow)) reported me for transaction interference for posting a link to the coin here on the forum.
If Marguli is bidding on this, that is even worse... no way he would want this, as he well knows its fakeola...so I would have to suspect he is schilling...
This looks pretty bad Mr. Braddick!

And when you're outed, add a disclaimer to the auction.
<< <i>On Dec-27-06 at 14:39:39 PST, seller added the following information:

I am sure Braddick and and Gmarguli knew this coin was ATd, and the history.
It's hard to believe Braddick would be trying to sell this as legit on Ebay. His belated disclosure does little to reassure. I hope Gmarguli was reacting to the charity invitation, and planned to get the thing off the market. One hopes for the best about both of these guys, whom I've always very much respected and trusted.
It seems to me, though, that the only proper thing to do now is to pull that auction, and crack that thing out of that slab.
I agree with what's already been said. Since PCGS won't slab AT'd coins, if the seller didn't disclose the AT nature of the coin, they'd be leading the buyer to believe that they could possibly get an upgrade (if they thought the coin deserved one). That's the problem I see with it. If it was raw, the buyer would be getting exactly what they paid for: a coin with pretty colors.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear the money's going to charity.
Edited to Add: Would anyone not on this forum know what an "MOC" coin is?
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

My first thought when i read that newly written 'disclaimer'. In my opinion something still 'stinks' about this whole thing.
1. the coin is in a first generation PCGS holder which has been the subject of previous AT threads. evidentally forum member Manofcoins and others were able to AT the coins while they were inside the holder. 2. the coin in the auction link appears to be one of those AT'd examples. 3. the seller is forum member Braddick. 4. Braddick has a self-admitted history of dabbling with coin doctors, most recently with former forum member Gmarguli. 5. the reasoning of the seller is that if the coin is "market acceptable" it's OK to sell it without any disclosure. 6. forum member Braddick has a habit of exposing other AT'd coins and coin doctors in threads at this forum. 7. since this thread was started, the seller(Braddick) has editted the auction, presumably to appear forthright concerning it's questionable nature while being benevolent and charitable, while the high bidder is Gmarguli and the attempt is most probably to protect the seller. 8. anyone who believes there's anything legitimate about this auction, the charity premise and the actions of the seller and current high bidder may be deluding themselves. 9. i would add that Braddick works in law enforcement in California, or at least he used to.
I wonder if they're doing it to whip this forum into a froth?
actually, i think it was a pathetic ploy to try and make it look like a "benevolent" auction with the proceeds going somewhere after the seller was outed...................again.

Yes, i believe the current seller is fully aware of the highly questionable nature of this coin, but doesn't care.
