Read the new online edition of Coin World. It's worth the subscription fee.

David Sklow utterly rips the ANA management several new defecatory options in a guest commentary!!!!!

Well, actually, there is about a 75% chance it will fall into that date range and a 10% chance that I will not receive it all. There is a 10% chance that I will receive it on the same day as the previous or subsequent Coin World and a 20% chance that I will receive it the day before or after another Coin World, that is not necessarily the one that was supposed to be received before or after it. image

My only question is: Is David Sklow running for the ANA board of governors in 2007?

If he is, then I want to hear what he has to say and what he would do to correct things if he is elected.

If he is not running, then I say to him. SHUT UP!

So if you're not willing to run, you have no right to an opinion?

I'd agree with you that ANA *members* who don't *vote* the bums out have less room to complain about the current board, but expecting everyone who doesn't like what's happening to be willing to RUN? That's a bit much, IMO.

    Tim,
There are a number of ANA members here who just want to lay out their complaints on this board. They can also email the board of governors directly with their opinions and maybe the board will begin to understand they have a big communication problem. I understand that less than 300 ANA members have contacted the board with their concerns. Even if you are not an ANA member you can contact them at www.money.org.

I have many disagreements with the way the current board has acted and I have communicated my concerns and received responses. I personally would like to see a whole new board get elected but I doubt if there are enough NEW people willing to campaign. Steveimage

Got my copy today. I am stunned. He describes an organization which is a Joseph McCarthy-esque environment. People being warned about which co-workers they go to lunch with!? People strongly discouraged from asking any questions about the financial reports that cover their own department? The board of directors unable to question any of the actual operations?

I am a strong ANA supporter but that story does not describe an ANA which I want. I am really going to have to think about this. I understand that the comments from a recently-dismissed employee could potentially be exaggerated, but there are so many allegations that even if there is exaggeration, there's still enough meat there to raise serious questions. And it's not just about trivial issues.

    Wow.

His comments about the diversion of funds is interesting. Sounds very similar to all the money collected for the ACG defense fund, none (or very little) of which was disbursed to the defendents for their legal fees.

  • << <i>Kranky - As you know, you can't believe everything you read. Give it time, the truth will come out. >>

Why do you think the truth will come out in time instead of remaining hidden forever?

An extensive internal investigation by an outside firm with no connections whatsoever to the ANA would
be interesting but I don't expect that to happen.
  • I believe much of what has been said and written lately about the shenanigans at the executive level of the ANA is the truth. I just don't know if it will ever be confirmed.

I think that's a good idea, I think it will be done (if it hasn't been done already), and I expect the ANA will come out of it pretty much clean as can be.

I doubt the ANA will stay mum on this - expect a rebuttal in the following issue.......

When I lived in Cleveland, Ohio back in the 1970's, I used to be among the first to receive Coin World. It was sent by the fastest truck the USPS had from Englewood, Oh to Cleveland OH. It was great!

Since I moved back to the east coast in the late 1970's, Coin World has been sending my weekly issue by BOAT!

I still haven't received my 11/27 issue as well! Ugh!

Grumbling complaints from fired employees are not usually too reliable.

That said, there seems to be a lot of "smoke" coming from the ANA, which does suggest that a fire is buring.

I hope Coin World at least checked Sklow's reliability before printing his comments.

Well, Mr. Sklow is the latest person who wouldn't do the "Colorado Springs Polka".

There will be an announcement on 12/1/2006 about a certain person who is a regular on the CU forum board and that person's plans for a possible run for the ANA board. Stay Tuned! image

For sure that will happen. Will it be Mr. Horton yet again with another angry response?

It would be interesting and perhaps more credible if the employees at the ANA did the responding since they have to
deal with whatever is or is not going on out there on a daily basis.

With all of the controversies that have been coming out of the ANA over the past few years it is hard to believe
that everything going on behind the scenes at the ANA is like a sea of tranquility.

As far as checking everything out I don't think that the ANA would allow interviews with the employees and management
if they had any idea something like this was going to come out in Coin World.

CW has been critical of the ANA in various editorials over the years so I'm not surprised they printed it.

I hardly see where this comment has any weight. Sklow wasn't a member or politician of the ANA, he was a staff member. He was paid to work there. I would think his comments about his former employer would be very valid if true. It's not just another ousted governor burning off steam, this guy worked professionally for the ANA for years. I, for one, am far more interested in hearing what he has to say than some sour ex-governor.

Maybe someone could upload the text and provide a link by PM to those interested. Or simply cut and paste into a pm. I do not believe that would violate copyright law anymore than leaving a copy in the lobby of a business. I no longer get Coin World and I want to read it. Thanks to anyone who can make this available.

I just emailed Ms. Deisher and asked permission.

    Ms. Deisher responded:

Coin World does not allow posting of articles published in Coin World at other web sites. If articles are posted at Coin World's web site, you may link to them. However, David Sklow's Guest Commentary was not posted at our site; thus we would not grant permission for it to be posted at the CU forum.

Hmmm, maybe it is time for the ANA to move back to Philadelphia?

That Rocky mountain mile high air must be a problem?

When the Franklin Mint outside of Philly closed up that was a heck of an opprotunity missed!

Also, are we going to bring back our old time Executive Director for a third time?

I am outraged at reading David Sklow's letter.

I cannot comprehend how negative things have gotten at the ANA.

28 out of 33 employees gone???? That is unacceptable.

What is Cipoletti's salary and how much in additional compensation did he receive in bonuses and legal fees?

How do those figures compare with the numbers Rochette received?

I am a life member of the ANA.
