I think Tom (Casey) nailed it with that Barber dime!!
I have been calling it faux cameo, but I like your term better, Rob.
A more subtle version is the peripheral rim darker toning w/ medium to light devices in circulated silver. Here are couple of Barber halves that fit the bill in the spectrum of 'circ. cameo':
Great idea for a thread, Hope it keeps going like your UNO one ...

Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

I forgot to come back to this thread and post the pic of that quarter. It's my icon now as well, but I never get tired of looking at it.

Mr. Carr, I was just reading QDB's "Expert's Guide" and saw a picture of you. 'Tis an honor to have such an numismatic celebrity on my humble CircCam™ thread.

Thanks, I didn't even know that I'm now an "expert" Is that an on-line guide or a book ?
Check out this Bust quarter I just saw on the BST forum, for sale by Dennis Tarrant ("numisma").
If that ain't CircCam, I don't know what is! Black-and-white CircCam!
(I post this as a nice example of the phenomenon, and I don't mind giving Dennis a little plug in the process, since I've done business with him and he gets my wholehearted approval.)
I'm attempting a set of classic commems with this look, I honestly think they look nicer and the design detail is easier to see with a little dirt and grime in the fields. How can you not love a coin like this?

I found a nice example of a cameo seated dime on ebay while digging around for seated quarters... not mine but I did buy a seated quarter from this seller. Man I love that dark toning.

Huh. Hell yes, it qualifies... that's textbook "circulation cameo" at its best!

There's something about Becky's 1812 half that really appeals to me. I just love circulated coins with that look.
Nice (CC) coins.
Whould this be something like,EYE APEAL?
Cool post.

<< <i>Not sure if this one qualifies. Just trying to get to a 1000 posts. Let me know though, or I'll forever remain confused. jws >>
Well, it doesn't quite qualify, though there is some nice contrast between the red X and the white box behind it.
(Edit- the pic is showing now. Can't see much contrast between the fields and the portrait, but that could just be the way the picture is lit.)
Mike- a perfect CircCam trio, there!
Here's one!
Edited because I grabbed the wrong picture.

Sorry for the small image. I tried to link a Registry pic since I did not have the file on hand.
