Tim LaPointe, who was a key witness in the trial of his former boss, Tom Noe, avoided a long prison sentence this morning when prosecutors dropped the most serious charge he faced.

LaPointe pleaded guilty to three counts of tampering with records, which carry a maximum five-year prison term each.

Judge Charles Doneghy said he will sentence LaPointe on Jan. 8.

Mr. LaPointe was in attendance at the MSNS show this last weekend and he seemed incredibly calm considering the coming circumstances.

I've known Tim and his family for decades & certainly hope that the judges deals with him leniently.

Why? Just because you know him personally doesn't make him any less of a crook.

Julian, if he knowingly tampered with records, why should the judge be lenient? A lawyer friend of mine got 10 years because he abused his fiduciary responsibility to clients with his trust fund.

This guy has been a friend for my entire adult life, and over the years, sent me many business clients, but he deserved his jail sentence for his crime. Why should this guy be treated any differently?

I really don't think that Tim is a crook. He did not take anything for himself that I am aware of. He probably did violate the law, but I can still hope that he does not have to do hard time.
