Yes, on several occasions. Chris is a notch copper expert and dealer. Always has a nice and reasonably price selection of coppers. Chris is very personable fellow and easy to talk with about coppers and all my experiences have been very satisfying. Along with Bob Grellman, operates McCawley-Grellman auctions.
Anyone who wants to know how good a guy Chris is can PM me -- I won't embarass him by lavishing him with praise here.
Suffice it to say he may be the only coin dealer I know that actually studied ethics in college!
Chris gave me my first job in coins, my first gig as a numismatic cataloguer, and taught me how to grade copper. If you don't like how I grade, blame Chris.
He's been a close friend to my mother and myself since my mom's first coin show -- the 1989 ANA. When I built my collection of large cents, the majority were purchased from Chris. When I sold them to help pay for college, Chris auctioned the best portion (August 1995) and handled others privately.
I don't think there is another dealer I'd recommend as highly.
He's a very good early copper dealer. He pays fair prices too, relative to his selling prices.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
