Home U.S. Coin Forum

A prospective customer gave me a good chuckle tonight.....

I don't post too often any more but still like to monitor the U.S. Coin Forum here at PCGS. And when a good story comes along, I also like to post it.

As some of you know, I've been at the GSA game for many years now. From time to time I sell a few pieces out of my collection and recently contacted a fellow who is obviously very interested in non-CC GSA's. My collection is quite mature and I guess when he saw some of the dates/mintmarks that I claim to own, it was just too much for him.

After exchanging a few e-mails, he came back with one today that basically said he wasn't born yesterday, trusted me about as far as he could throw me, and that I could take a hike if I wasn't who I claimed to be!!!image

I'll link this thread in my response to him. You guys have fun telling him what a snake I am.image

Boy is he going to be upset to see this thread. image

Hmmmm, what to say..........If you are reading this you might want to know that its not nice to piss off the holder of one of the USA's finest GSA collections. (and he might have some spares to sell)

    Well

Did he ever give you any reason for what he said?

  • He doesn't believe you're gsaguy? Or that gsaguy has the finest Morgan collection there is?

He could start with your pcgs ms68 classic banded rainbow that sets the standard and that rob790 saw fit to demonstrate natural silver toning progression.

I hope he didn't want it. You told me you've turned down $20,000 and the guy who offered that confirmed it. I'm saving my pennies for it.

Then there are the other images you've shared with me, and which I saved. Be glad to post them if you like.

  • Wow. Even JB has posted today.

I don't post much anymore either, though I do try to monitor this forum when I get the chance.

Hmmm......... well, I remember passing on a GSA 79CC a few years ago. Even had a shot at a couple of them. At the price they were offered to me, I've been kicking myself ever since.

I know if I was looking for GSA items, there is only one person I'd contact and he's the guy who started this thread.

Nice to know I'm not the only one to make a foolish mistake, but at least I did get to look at a very impressive batch of them.

I seem to recall you were writing a book. Is that done or am I mistaken. My guess is it has been done for years and escaped my attention.

Well, if you're reading this thread, GSAGUY is the real thing.

  • << <i>Yeah, I've seen your tarnished GSAs. They all need a bath.image >>

I've even offered to dip them for him. He declined!!!

All I can say is that if Bryan claims to own an item of which only 8 are known. He's probably fudging the truth as it's a safe bet he owns the other 7.

For heaven's sakes, the guy has even has a steel safe and canvas mint gold bags (empty) from the CC mint.

Bottom line Mr. Doubting Thomas, if Bryan tells you something, you can take it to the bank.

The book is done, though I've not ever published it. And I'll go ahead here and say why......it's because I've been waiting to buy a single coin that's featured in the book.

If the book was published before I bought the coin, I'd never be able to buy it.

    Hi Bryan,

Although I've never seen your collection in person, you are literally world reknowned for the quality, quantity and value of your GSA (and other numismatic) holdings.

Thanks for the story...what a wreckless way to start a TOP QUALITY coin reationship or build a coin reputation! He was probably fakin' his means anyway...

GSAGUY? Yeah he's alright. The tough part is getting him to cut loose with something you want, not whether he has it, as he most likely does.
And if you don't like the grading he does, just ask him to write your grade on the holder, with his sharpie pen. Heh heh

He might even have a good story to tell ya too.image

    Yep!

It was so awesome opening up one of them and finding a 1893-CC in MS-64PL!!!!

Did you get my pm, GSAGUY?

  • Please keep us informed on the status of the book, I am WAITING to read it. And I hope that other gentleman comes to his senses and sells you the coin so that the world can become enlightened on the secrets of the GSA sales. I have an unopened GSA dollar in the original mailer that I bought from GSAGUY. I wouldn't trust ebay for something like that but I do trust Bryan.

I have also been fortunate enough to see a few of the dollars in the soon to be famous GSAGUY collection. I remember a conversation at a coin show. A high end collector said that he had started an attempt to collect the finest toned morgan dollar collection and then quit after seeing just some of GSAGUY's collection.

Put me on this list for the GSA book.
