New addition: 1837 FEUCHTWANGER THREE CENT PIECE- Need grade opinions....

I finally acquired this rare issue and I'm pretty excited about it. OK, it's not the most attractive example because it's corroded from being a dug coin(seller stated it is a dug coin) but it's still an interesting and cool item to have. It is also the first coin I've owned that has a planchet crack and it's located at 4 o'clock. It does have a full date, it's just hard to see in the pics.

Hey, but if it didn't have its problems I wouldn't be able to afford it because these do sell for thousands of dollars. I paid $111 at auction on Ebay, I thought it was a good price!

BTW, any opinions on the grade: ???? detail, NET ???? corroded

Cool item. I'd say VF-30 details, heavily corroded, net Good-4

The planchet crack is as made; very typical of the issue.

We recently handled a PCGS AU-50 of the same issue and it had a planchet crack in about the same place.

A very scarce item (and listed on page 371 of the 2007 redbook for those who didn't know).

That is extremely cool and a well-spent $111

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it.

Is there an estimated or known mintage for these 3 cent pieces?

cant really tell from the pic.. something doesnt seem 100% to me....

you sure thats corroded and not a cast copy or copy that someone "roughed up" to sell?

It would be very hard to cast a fake with a planchet crack like that. I think it is genuine.

I agree. Just in case,I'm probably going to send it to NCS, ANACS, or SEGS to get it authenticated.
