Please grade and attribute this 1820 Bust Half

And I'll explain why later...

Oh...there is plenty of cartwheel luster in the protected areas. Thanks for any input positive or negative, despite my poor photography.

    Hey Mike,

Looks like an Overton 104, R. 4. Nice coin. Hard to really judge from the photo but I'd lean toward AU50. The 1820s are getting harder and harder to find. Congrats..

Nice job and I agree with you on the grade. This is a very tough variety, despite the R.4 designation.

Although it is probably slabbed as AU-53.
  • Nice pickup, Mike! Did you buy it as a 104? This die marriage has always commanded a significant premium and is very scarce in EF or better.

This would seem to qualify it as an EF of some sort.
  • Very nice. I will say she grades AU-53. A very gorgeous lady.image

Looks like a solid PCGS AU50, and one of the two 1820 Overton marriages I need. If you bought that coin unattributed as the R4+, you got a super bargain.image

  • Thanks everyone, for the input.

It's in an old PCGS green label holder and graded an XF45, which is why I wanted input on the grading.

I did purchase it as an O-104 and paid as such image , but it's a gorgeous coin image

Hi Mike, wish I would have seen this thread earlier to throw in my guess.
Luster in the protected areas will usually mean the TPG will throw an EF grade at the coin regardless of the visible wear. It is all about the luster. Nice coin and a real tough variety you got thereimage
1920 is a year to hoard (but don't tell anyone).
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
