Any chance this Franklin is NT?

PCGS called it questionable color. The luster and color on the surface look deep to me. I am certainly no expert on toning.

This is the first time that I have used the photo service. I am impressed with the images.

I would agree with PCGS's call on this one....

I have seen many 100% natural coins that look very similar to yours. There's a very good chance that its NT but the TPG didn't want to bet on it.

In my opinion, that puppy is 100% market acceptable. At least based on the images.

Look OK to me. Seem they are bagging a lot of toned Frankies lately.

If you still have pictures of the one that was mine Russ, you should post a pic. I think it was very similar.

The coin looks natural to me, but it's not the kind of color that turns me on. But the way things work these days, there is collector out there who will think that it's beautiful. If you really want to have the thing slabbed, try NGC, but don't be surprised if you get the same reaction.

Looks like mint set toning to me.
  • quite honestly I believe that that coin has natural toning, but PCGS gest real picky when it comes to anything that is borderline AT like that.

They are full of hoey. There is nothing wrong with that coin. All the services are running scared from toned coins right now. It looks nice.

    PCGS called it questionable color

Meaning the hue...the violet/blue of the obverse? I would think they could have given you a better answer than that? Leaves the door kind of wide open, no wonder your asking questions. The toning on this Frankie is not real clear cut, looks like a "better safe than sorry" body bag.

Would I re-submit? hmmmm, get it there on a Friday.

Possibly. Does have that blue look. Being 1 sided it sure isn't mint set toning. I don't think it would holder anywhere.

  • Looks fine to me. I would send it in again next month. I have noticed that PCGS has gotten very hinckey

with purples lately. I have had mebbe three BB's this year. All were for QT and all had some purple. (And

to PCGS's credit, all were done.)

dtkk - I'm guessing that is a 1962 proof set?

Many mint set toners are one sided.

Agreed. But the ones that aren't combined with the odd color of that one is what makes me question it, is what I was trying to say. I should have said "might not be" mint set tone.
